Is this stuff supposed to be good? I just made it for the first time and its almost nauseating. It's like indian curry powder in jello form.
As far as curries go, this is the worst kind I've ever had

It is amazing how bad that stuff is
Japanese curry is like some horrible turkey gravy from hell
I mean , it wont make you gag I guess but when you are expecting a nice spicy curry , it sure is a disappointment

why is japanese cuisine so hilariously bad?
the main staple dish of nipponland is sushi which is literally just fish on rice
their curry is just watered soup
ramen is just inferior version of authentic Chinese noodles
even instant noodles is taiwanese (Chinese) and not from japan

why could the nips not make a satisfactory cuisine?

>> No.15145260

>>15143975
Your kind of spot on. Meat and veg gives it a few more flavors, but in comparison to other curries (especially when they are used for food) it pretty much is just brown curry. But, that simplicity works well on alot of dishes, just not as well as others. I find an indian or thai curry better on rice, but like box curry for noodles more. And alot of veg and meat can make it a pretty easy and satisfying stew that I may put on rice if I need to stretch it out.

Pork shoulder / "butt" (500 g),
Onions (1 large),
Carrots (200 g),
Garlic (3-5 cloves),
Apple (1/2, grated),
Potatoes (300-400 g),
Japanese curry roux (1 large block/100 g),
Yellow curry powder (2 tbsp),
Honey (1-2 tbsp),
Soy sauce (1-2 tbsp),
Balsamic vinegar (1 tbsp),
Ketchup (1 tbsp),
Olive oil,
Milk,
Water (750-1000 ml),
salt (and pepper) to taste

1) Cut the meat into large mouth sized pieces and sear in a large pot with olive oil on high heat, adding a bit of salt. Put the meat aside, leaving juices and good stuff in the pan.
2) Chop the onion and fry it on medium heat with a bit of salt for 10-15 min or until a nice color has been achieved.
3) Chop the carrots into large pieces (ca. 1 thumb joint), mince the garlic and add both to the pan with yellow curry powder. Sear a bit on low-med heat.
4) Add the meat back into the pot.
4) Add the water. Finely grate half an apple and add it to the pot. Put the lid on and let it slowly simmer for at least 1.5 hours on low heat.
5) Cut the potatoes into large mouth sized pieces, add them to the pot and leave it to simmer for another 45 min.
6) Add the Japanese curry block and let it disintegrate (5-10 min)
7) Add honey, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and ketchup. Add a dash of full fat milk to get a nice gloss going.

Serve with rice.

You sound like a working class chump. I bet you thought it would be a great "investment", how you would wake up to a warm, healthy breakfast to start off your long day. Maybe, you even had a couple thoughts about all the other nifty little uses you could find for the thing, how it would help you cook healthier meals in general, shed a couple pounds off the old gut, boost your confidence around work and with the ladies. Yeah, maybe that slow cooker would start your life cooking again, wouldn't it? I can see your strained hands holding the box and reading through it carefully at the store. A little bit pricey, but you're the type of guy who thinks everything is more than you can spend, aren't you. And look what happened to you. Look what the slow cooker did to you. Fucked you over, and made you clean it like a useless bitch. You don't even fucking like oatmeal. Piece of shit, you've been repeating those three words your whole life, haven't you. Yeah, how was work after that piece of shit fucked you over? I bet it was on your mind the whole day, you probably didn't say shit to nobody. Can't be telling people about your mistakes. How your little fix yourself plan, failed you. Don't want people to start thinking you're the failure. You're the piece of shit, all along. You don't want that do you? You don't want to be the piece of shit everybody secretly whispers about, do you? Was your father a piece of shit like you? I bet he never had a slow cooker. He had a woman, a house, a damn good job. I bet it's slow cooking you the fuck alive, isn't it. Comparing yourself to him. How one day when all the steam runs our of your life, you'll discover how you're nothing more than burnt shit to be scrapped off and thrown in the trash.
