Gaaahhhh. This. Sorry, OP, but that shit is disgusting. IIRC they were sued over consumer deceptive practices but argued that "Arby's Roast Beef" is its own separate concept from "roast beef" and means "recovered meat fragments held together in a matrix of meat glue and other happy surprises".

It all depends on your location and your market. Fried chicken makers in the ghetto do great business. If your storefront is on a main road with a lot of traffic, then you should do fine. If you're on some backwoods hillbilly road you'll probably be broke in six months.

You just have to manage the employees and the tax paperwork, and don't fuck the teenage cashiers or you'll get sued.

I've known two restaurants that failed miserably, and both were because their owners did really stupid things. The first set up a "vegan pizza" shop in the middle of a college district. Well, that may be a market, but it's not a big one, and 99% of people are going to want real cheese at least, not soy protein with fake cheese flavor added. Broke and out of business in six months.

The second was a sadder story. He set up a high end restaurant in a beautiful location, but with what had to be the absolute stupidest place to put a restaurant -- a highway with zero parking anywhere nearby. People would have to park, walk about a mile along a busy road, and then go in to eat. Nice ocean view out the back, but so what if you have to hike to get to it. His first week he had zero customers, and shut the doors and started packing up. He probably could have made it a success even so, but he expected people to pour in and start chowing down from Day One and didn't have any savings to ride on until word-of-mouth took off. Really just piss-poor planning all around.

I know there used to be an Arby's at Oakridge, years ago, I suspect it will depend on location. Just myself, I can't ever remember going "I want Arby's," if I had it, it was because I was at Oakridge as a youngun and thought "well, I don't want chinese, A&W, etc. so let's have Arby's."

I suspect it will, like all things real estate, depend on location, location, location. Tho I guess in this market you also get door dash/skip the dishes, etc. business.

You're not some horrible person using Vancouver to mean Surrey/Coquitlam, are you?

This you can actually blame on the Jews.

As Arby's was one of the few restaurants that had Kosher options it was one of the places people would bring their Jewish Grandma's in the 1970's. These Jewish Grandma's would compare these roast beef sandwiches to the Deli's in the Bronx - ie complain about them being not as good - and as the 1980's and 1990's came around the Jewish kids who heard their Grandparents and Parents complain about Arby's used it as an easy joke.

This is a better question for >>>/biz/
Not if you're in the right area, with not much competition from other fast food chains.
How much capital are you laying out?
Have you seen figures for costs for sourcing Arby's menu items?
What's the local minimum wage?
How much is your rent (or mortgage, if you're building) going to be?
What are you planning on paying yourself?

Personally, I wouldn't franchise an Arby's, and seek out a different company, just due to the customer base being thin, but you do you.

be prepared to be working hard as fuck to make the place profit, every fast food joint is operating at like 30-70% capacity as they used to as people don't prefer to eat out in a pandemic anymore. i hear canada is doing fine so you have less to worry about in that dept. however you will definitely have to know everything about the place and how to work every role while managing at the same time. you'll also have every problem in the store blamed on you even when you're literally not involved just because you're the owner, and be nervous as hell every single day not knowing if your manager opened the store or not because they can and will quit out of nowhere so when that happens you'll have to drag your ass out of bed at 6am, open it yourself, deal with open interviews where 99% of applicants are trash, never show up for the interview, nor when they actually get the job. you're also going to be defending a really bland overpriced menu and trying to profit off of selling stupid people overpriced sandwiches based on the brand name alone. you'll also have to respond personally to every complaint that gets elevated to corporate and no matter how retarded the person is you'll have to apologize. doing this shit takes guts, it's completely thankless, but the profits are all you have to look forward to so good luck.
