What's /ck/s favorite waffle maker? I don't have one and am looking to pick one up soon, possible with a Black Friday discount.

Have a rotating waffle maker like pic. Works well, makes really good waffles. Only downside is that you need to make lots of waffles to justify the effort. I have a family with two boys, so no problem. A single person would end up with too many waffles.

Anyone ever use this Presto 03510 waffle iron?

It looks kind of stupid imo but it's extremely well reviewed and looks like it wouldn't take up too much space.

Most waffle makers are shit because they're meant for Ameriplebs and their batter "waffles". An actual waffle is made from a dough.

Assuming you want an electric waffler instead of a stovetop cast iron option...

Round? Rectangular?
Single ("mini") or multi-section?
Dedicated appliance, or waffle plates that go in a panini press/contact grill?
Standard or Belgian (deep pocket)?

If you don't know, order a Carbon's Golden Malted Waffle Baker, because they work pretty good.

protip: use your leftover dressing/“stuffing” by put a scoop onto a well-buttered waffle iron, cook till crisp on outside, top with cranberry compote, you’re welcome

I have this 60s era one where the plates are reversible so you can use it as a griddle. It still works perfectly, appliances are one thing you're better off buying at a garage sale since new shit is designed to break.

>new shit is designed to break

the only reason people think stuff built back in the day is more rugged than modern consumer products is because of survivorship bias. the only old products that are still used today were designed for built rugged enough to survive decades. what you don't see is the 99% of similar products that broke between 1 and 10 years. it's the same as today.

nice bias you have there, to bad it's wrong.

people get rid of things mostly because "new is better" meme. truth is that things like waffle maker like the old ones had no electronics and when properly taken care of (don't get the elements wet) they last for fucking ever.

Modern toasters are absolute shit ALL OF THEM. the only thing the do better than old ones is they have wider slots.

pick related is the best toaster ever made. people who got rid of them did so because the lifting mechanism stopped working right, and they had forgotten there is an adjustment on the bottom of the toaster for that. The all still work even after 80 years.

used to have a GE waffle maker from the 1930's that worked like a god damn charm that I bought from a garage sale when I was 17 cause we never owned a waffle maker. Sadly I lost it, most likely my mom threw it out cause she's a bitch that wants to try and look like she lives a rich and exspensive life style when she's poor and spends her money on dumb shit. While I can't forgive her for throwing out such a wonderful peice of history, my mom was cleaning out a house that this old lady died in and none of her family wanted to take possestion of her shit, turns out the old lady used to work for an old retail store and she had a fucking ton of literally never opened or used appliances from the late 80s, all top of the line brands that were priced at upwards of $50+. Gave me a new waffle maker, blender, toaster oven, plastic cups and plates, pretty much filled my entire cubbord up.

shit man, that's the dream right there.

i was able to pick up a never been used, still in-box cuisinart food processor from the 90s a couple months ago on craigslist. it's an absolute tank and feels like it will last forever.

No it died over a long time so it didn't look like a short. It took longer and longer to heat up and by the time it wasn't heating up at all and we popped the irons off and looked at the element it was fucking done for.

I went on a waffle iron hunt a while ago. I wanted something that wasn't a bulky counter top hog, but also something that wasn't a cheap little plastic piece of shit. I wanted an appliance that had sturdy switches, buttons, and slides.

I didn't find a single one. You either get a giant professional one or you get cheap garbage. The garbage may work fine. It may even last. In fact i'm sure it would. I just personally am very picky and hate using cheap feeling shit.

So as an alternative, I went ahead and bought one of these. stove top waffle pans. I'd never actualy seen anyone else use one before me. Maybe you all have some experience with them? I've found it to be perfect though. Unitasker sorta. But you can make bizarre sandwiches and such. It's fairly small, especially compared to a dedicated waffle iron. These heart shaped ones are pretty unique looking, and make a pretty interesting piece to hang with your pans if you do that sort of storage. And if you use this think 2 or 3 times a month, it's probably good for a lifetime.

Pic shown is a more modern looking one with an insulated handle. You can also go very classic and find great heavy cast iron ones.

This might be your answer OP. Let me know what you think or if you have questions.
