I agree. His content is actually pretty good too, in terms of photography, recipes, production value, etc. But I can't stand his personality. He actually calls it "flexing" in some instances, like that time he showed off his new $400 knife, or when he bought a kakuri (wooden plane) to cut katsuobushi. And then he didn't even tell the viewers to use the katsuobushi for anything after making dashi with it, lol.

But yeah, the whole thing is just weirdly egotistical feeling to me-- if you want to simmer a stock for 10 hours and do these really involved cooking projects, that's great and cool as a hobby, but it doesn't make you better than other cooks, and people who do practical home cooking are not wrong for abstaining from super labor/time-intensive cooking.

Also his jokes are super cringe to me like when he zooms in on his mouth and adds a slow-motion effect and shit. His super over-the-top intro where he opens the cupboard and starts yelling questions at you.

Chef John really is great. His approach of no-nonsense instruction combined with a light, friendly tone is a winner.
