Whenever she uses something she puts it aside but never puts it in the dishwasher, plastic containers are left with the dirty dishes till someone walks in and gets annoyed with it and has to then clean it up. If you refuse then she will find a momentum to complain about you, as in if you clean up your own things then she will complain how little work it is to clean up the rest as well and how you should do so.

Other things include; her egg pan is always covered with sticking, burnt egg when she is done. Too much oil in everything. Her only cooking mode is; high fire, throw it in and it is done. Usually she starts cooking and then watches TV until she smells it is burnt. If you offer help then she just sits in the livingroom and comes in at the end wondering if she can do anything (except for clean up).

My mother's side of the family is variously picky with odd hangups, OCD runs in the family and I have spent a lot of my life working out of that stuff. Her diet almost entirely consists of cheese, candy, and chicken fingers. When we eat at diners, she can't have her pancakes or french toast on the same plate as anything else and she doesn't like her vegetables touching. It's all good but her palate is pretty american overall and she's not adventurous when trying new foods where I am. I'll tell her she will like a food--and she has gotten a lot more open to trying things--but if it sounds weird to her or has a weird ingredient then it's like her brain tells her she doesn't like it so she doesn't. Her solution to that is "don't tell me what it is just let me eat it." For instance, she really likes the american taco meat, the ground beef with taco seasoning, and she likes barbecue sauce, but she doesn't like sloppy joes and won't eat them.

I'm proud of her progress but it can be a little frustrating when I make food that she won't even try because I put in sesame oil or butternut squash or whatever. My cooking for her is thus delegated to mostly macaroni and cheese.

Any little crumb or spot you miss she'll find. If you leave a fingerprint on the fridge opening it she notices and cleans it immediately. Kinda house where we each had one cup and one plate and you cleaned it immediately after using it. If there was a lone fork in the sink the kitchen was a disaster to her.

Other than that she's always liked my cooking and encouraged us to cook. She teases me if I measure ingredients at all though, says that's some prissy shit.

My mom is always looking for ways to cut corners, it's pretty annoying. I've never tried them but I guess they taste a bit shit compared to before freezing them. Beef trimmings are used for all sorts though, and can still be made tastier than steakums through other ways, like stew or broth. Either way, it's cheaper and you can mask the taste with other stuff.

The last time I went over for a dinner at my family's place, I asked where the vegetables where and my mom started bitching that she didn't like vegetables. So we had fucking roasted cornish hen with salt and pepper, mashed potatoes, and brown sugar baked beans from a can.

My single mother created the "I cook - you clean" rule when I was a kid. I was fine with it until I saw the horrible mess she made in the kitchen after every meal. She'd cook spaghetti in four different pots. WHY WOULD SPAGHETTI REQUIRE FOUR SEPARATE POTS?!?!?!

Shit like this would only get worse when big meals during holidays were made. Every fucking bowl and spoon in the house would be used for each individual ingredient. Every spatula, every possible dish imaginable was used like she was one of those fucking TV chefs with each spice in it's own little glass bowl.

We didn't have a dishwasher, so it was just me grinding away at burnt lasagna from three different glass pans for a fucking hour.... I hated that shit so bad.

it's actually useful. steaks it's nice because you can make even cheaper stuff really tender. but its more useful for things like pork where you want to fully cook it for safety. but the best outcome is with some pink, so with sous vide you can cook it to those temps safely. or even eggs, if a recipe uses raw eggs and the eggs you have may be a little sketchy to use all the time, then you can pasteurize them while keeping it in a pretty much raw state.

She threatened to disinherit me if I left, because she demanded that I sit around all day and cater to every last little whim that she had, like slicing a piece of watermelon for her or running out to the grocery store to buy her an avocado (even though I went there the night before and asked her if she needed anything and she said no, because she wasn't going to eat an avocado at night, she didn't want it until lunch the next day).
