This was my little old lady who died a year ago. She loved bananas and peanuts. I had to keep an eye on her because she would taste anything. She didn't usually eat a lot of it, but she'd taste it. She liked whisky and champagne and sherry (learned that by catching her sipping). She licked (she had no teeth - removed when she was only 2) her way I to a spaghetti squash once. She and her littermate sister both had severe infections when I got them from the Aspca. They had stomatitis and had to have their teeth removed. They'd had bad URIs up to that point. Mitsu died of kidney failure due to hyperthyroid (I'd taken her to a few different vets and they all said she was too young to have thyroid problems at 8. Now I fight for blood work when I worry at all). Nini the one in the picture lived until she was 16. She had a mass under her colon and what the vet suspected was cancer in her spine. She had a stroke while waiting for results on a cancer screening and I put her to sleep. She and her sister were also both deaf. They had a lot of issues but survived longer than the vets thought they would.

Nini was perfectly fine after she had her teeth out from the age of two to 16. She was taken to the vet regularly. Her sister was fine from 2 until about 8 when all it would have taken for her to have a long life would have been thyroid meds. I had bad vets when I lived in Vermont. I moved to a new state and got a new vet but it was too late and I put her to sleep. There were years and years of no issues at all.

I cant argue that. I've thought before people have pets due to an inability to be alone with themselves, due to mental instability or the crippling fear of being alone with no one. I think having something that depends on you, like children or pets helps stabilise your mental state and stops you from doing certain things, like suicide. In a way it could be classed as a crutch, because they don't have the strength/willpower to work through their problems. These are my thoughts on it anyway, based on what I've seen or heard. I always cook up some meat or gravy or whatever I'm making for my roommate's dog when he's gone for the day as opposed to giving her kibbles. She hates kibble and will go days on end without eating if that's the only option. I hate that he refuses to admit it.

my little shit is a really picky thing but at least he has good eating habits like he'll tell me when he's hungry, he'll stop eating when he's full, he won't try to steal from the table or beg for food, and if it's something he doesn't want, he'll just want to smell it then leave it. I guess I'm autistic then, like the other anons said. I've always had a loving good family, and I've had pets before when I was young that I've looked after. The most recent animal I had was a dog from one of my neighbors. I helped him look after it because the guy was 94 and couldn't do much. He invited me to his house and gave me his dog, asked me to look after him then died in his chair in front of me. After that I looked after the dog for about a year before it died, was my responsibility afterall. I have experience with it which is why I'm sharing my views, not trying to offend anyone.
