I don't think I have ever had gravy that wasn't "real". How does someone make fake gravy?

probably referring to crappy gravy granules/powder instead of using the rendered fat from the meat mixed to make a proper gravy from scratch

most restaurants ive worked in go for powdered gravy that you just reconstitute with hot water
theres a good chance youve had one and never actually noticed it was fake gravy

i never really looked into how cheap it is compared to just making gravy the traditional way with roux and stuff because ive always noticed that a bag of it is very pricey

I have never seen such a product in my life, this is a weird world we live in. Gravy is fast and easy to make, would take exactly the same amount of time to make it fresh as it would to reconstitute the grains.

I mean of course I am pro real gravy, no doubt. Fake gravy sounds horrifying.
>>14951198
maybe, idk. The only time I order something w gravy is a roast beef poboy and the place I get it from makes the roast beef and the gravy themselves (Parsol's or Parkview Tavern in New Orleans)

What are you talking about? One is a lot faster than the other. True gravy requires you to simmer bones down into a stock for a few hours at least and enrich it with dark roux. Versus throwing pellets in water.

>Fake gravy sounds horrifying
its not as bad as you think it is
its still made up of ingredients that are used for the real thing

why cook up broth for hours and hours when you can just use powdered beef concentrate from a company who has already processed the stuff for you

i guess it only works if youre a shop that has the bones and scrap veg to make gravy the traditional way

I keep stock at the ready in my freezer and fridge. I am not going to go through all that just for gravy. I just use the stock I have already made.

>how cheap it is compared to just making gravy
$25 for 8 gallons, and what... 45 minutes prep, with most of that being "wait 30 minutes, stir"?

If you've got drippings, use 'em.
If you don't, and just want some brown goo on potatoes, powder all day, and I welcome the competition from the real gravy campaign.
