There are two in my city, and a handful within a decent drive that make proper sours - it's a beer with a tang to it, not a god damned bacterial infection with a yeasty aftertaste.

I don't know, maybe I got lucky with brettanomyces, but I've made decent brett-lacto beers with a hint of almost citrusy-sourness lying between the hops and the thin layer of brett funk. Most of these guys are just murdering the brettanomyces like it's supposed to be a main ingredient. I think Sam Adams was doing something like this for a bit. Some of the local breweries are doing the same, like a highlight of a particular hop, with a single-item or very simple malt bill to highlight it (because something like East Kent Goldings will work with something like straight munich, but really benefits from a pinch of mid-L caramel malt).

As with most beers that start off as a concept - some are really good (Saaz and Galaxy, for instance, seem to be hard to screw up), and others should never have escaped the lab.

This is what mid-prairie 2row and Yakima Valley Cascade taste like together. This is what we did to make this taste like it does. To take it Westward, start the hops earlier in the boil. To take it Eastward, start them much later, even into the primary fermentation... the labels are usually fairly informative.

you seriously dont think Yuengling is better than Miller, Bud, etc? those are literal pisswater. American style pilsners usually just mean more watery. Yuengling isnt the best beer by far but I'd much rather it be the default beer than Coors light or whatever other swill people drink
