Is this any harm and how often do you use it

>> No.14775215

Ive never used MSG, bit its so common I cant see how it would be /that/ bad unless you use it in excess.

>> No.14775219

>>14775203
it's not harmful at all, it's just sodium and glutamate.

>> No.14775223

It's not harmful just gives you headaches.

>> No.14775245

the headaches are completely psychosomatic
i.e. you a little bitch

no harm. it's pretty good. I use the same brand. I found that if I use too much there's a weird chemically taste. also don't use it for oven cooking.
MSG was used in china for adding a more filling flavour to vegetables. and that's really where it shines.

>> No.14775285

>>14775203
I keep my fridge/freezer stocked with miso, soy sauce, dried shiitakes and kombu so I have no shortage of umami options and I usually think first to use one of those before I reach for my MSG.

>> No.14775572

>>14775550
Well MSG is a type of salt, so yeah if you drink the stuff you'll prolly get dehydration headaches.
But for average consumption Its probebly a placebo. Studies have been done and they found that MSG has no noticeable effects.

Well then why are asian foods labeled "NO MSG"

>> No.14775943

>>14775659
Because it doesn't cost anything to label it as "yeast extract" and satisfy a few extra wackjob customers. You'll notice they often say "no ADDED msg"

>> No.14776944

Just started using it last week. I can't eat anything without it now. Anything I have except for drinks and sweet things I dump a whole lot on to it. I don't feel too good afterwards, I might just be eating too much food at a time though

>> No.14776957

>>14775285
I use MSG when those other flavor options would not be appropriate for the dish I'm trying to make.

>> No.14776991

>>14775625
Then why did you say it, queer?

>> No.14777003

>>14775659
Because there was a big scare about MSG being bad for you and Asian places were known to have it. So, to calm the fears of stupid people, they put on "no MGS." Its the same shit as putting "gluten free" on milk or rice packages.

It's totally fine. Like with anything else, too much can be bad. It's extremely common and works great imo. I sprinkle a little on certain meats sometimes, just gives it a little umph without it being overly salty.
