Teflon is a polymer. It's applied thinly to a scarred metal surface. It's very expensive per kg. Good luck trying to buy some and spray it on yourself.

yup. you just need to take a drill brush or something to it until it has been stripped down to bare metal then you just season it like cast iron. you can season steel and aluminum with oil just like cast iron

It's not really that expensive. But you can't just spray it on and it's hard to work with since instead of melting it decomposes.
