It's warm, comforting, cozy, soothing, tasty, sweet, filling, good for you, full of fibre, keeps you full for a long time, with many of the compounds needed for optimal health, and it tastes delicious

Call me Scottish and yes my great grandparents are Scottish and Irish but Porridge, Porridge is the food for me

Buy some real cinnamon, not the supermarket stuff
It's a whole new level

I don't have cinnamon with it, just oats, water and salt, that's the scottish way and it's the best, or oats and milk will do

I like it but I never feel quite satisfied if that's all I'm eating. Doesn't seem to have enough protein.

I prefer cream of wheat/semolina most, but oats are really good too.

What else should I try?

It's not nice unless you make it with milk. I hate making it with water. Once I didn't have milk so I figured I'll just use water and then I put a bit of jam on it as well and it was horrible.

oats nice and thick

>> No.14698661

I've been eating oats everyday for years. Never get bored with them. I don't like broken bits and pieces like in pic though. Only jumbo organic flakes for me though.

To get the most flavour out of them you really do need to stir and not just put them in the microwave briefly. I don't want it like wall paper paste nor loose with the water separate from the flakes.

I make mine with water and add just a dash of milk at the end to cool it down, add flavour and loosen it if too thick. I don't add sugar, but one medjool date. Sometimes i chop a banana on top and some peanuts and/or berries. That way you get some texture, sweetness and sourness.

>> No.14698711

>>14697841
Milk, wheat oats, banana and peanut butter (non-american kind without HFCS and palm oil). 2½-1 milk-oat ratio. Sliced banana goes in toward the end to give up some sweetness and tenderize slightly without turning to mush and becoming one with the porridge. Dollop of peanut butter at the end and stir well.

Cheesy oats on the hob are fantastic. Throw in some black pepper for a mild kick as well and you're golden.

I use jumbo whole oats. Pic related. I cook them that quickly. Just keep stirring and once you can see that the liquid has been absorbed and it has the consistency you want...done.
Cooking for 10-30 minutes? That would turn the oats into mush I think. I'm really surprised to hear that much time spent on boiling oats.

The implication here is to microwave, stir, microwave etc. Otherwise any sane person would have specified cooking it on the stove.

You could salt the water if you want, but its easier to sort out the seasonings once you've taken them off the hob imo.

I don't know the way I learned it was use as small a flame as possible but still low simmering, too high temperature doesn't give it time to soften the oats, makes the texture weird, and taste burned if not stirred enough
