>To be real, spices don't go "bad" the way that milk goes "bad"—that years-old thing of cumin isn't going to kill you. But the sad fact is that spices lose flavor over time, and you want your spice game to be as strong as it possibly can be; that means having the spices in your cabinet at their maximum potential, full of flavor, and ready to liven up any other ingredient they come in contact with. To do that, you need to make sure the spices in your pantry are as fresh as possible, and buy whole—as in, not ground—spices whenever possible.
>Once you purchase spices, they will lose flavor (whether or not they’re ground). You shouldn’t keep ground spices for more than three months and whole spices for more than eight to ten.

No, TV dinners come out better in an oven or toaster oven.

Microwaves are convenient; some people are willing to sacrifice quality for convenience.
I don't think that butter melted in a microwave is worse than butter melted in a pan on a stove (or in a fondue pot), and it is easier, for me, sometimes.

This image can't be real. The fuck is this? That aside, I feel like "breakfast sandwich machines" of any capacity are like wheelchairs in a sense. I have legs and can walk, so I dont need one. But someone who doesn't have legs would probably enjoy one. So, it's useful for a specific demographic, but I'd never own one. It also sends the message that the owner is cooking-impaired just like a wheelchair signals a different kind of impairment. For a while, it was like a posh thing to own one but it never stuck. Probably because people realized that if you need some sort of aide to make a sandwich or quesadilla(panini gets a pass here) and you aren't actually handicapped physically or mentally, then you just look stupid. Not to everyone,no, but to the majority, yes. Like a person in a wheelchair who doesn't need it, but thinks it's cool to be in one.

reminds me of the time my dad stuck his foot in his mouth around the holidays, he'd seen a similarly-goofass countertop s'mores-machine, probably in a catalog or something, and he brought it up to goof on it like "isn't that about the silliest, stupidest thing you ever heard?"
and it turns out that that was my aunt's christmas gift to grandma.

I've been washing cheap, shitty bamboo cutting boards in my dishwasher for years and they haven't even warped, let alone cracked or broken. They haven't picked up any weird flavors or odors, and they're just as clean as if you wash them by hand if not better.

that's an old mitch hedberg line I love. but really nothing does potatoes like a microwave. maybe some people are real master-chefs and don't mind all the workarounds, but my philosophy is that if it's 10% less convenient it'll happen 50% less often, and I've known some people to have a much much much higher takeout-intake because even though they very much can cook when they apply themselves, having to apply themselves just so they can eat makes "being lazy" significantly more appealing. Most things DO taste better prepared otherwise, but there's so many things that become effortless with one. Bacon is great in the microwave. Potatoes, mashed or baked. You'll eat more veggies if you can toss a frozen steaminbag in the box and press a button. Instant side-dish. Leftovers, and zapping stuff that went cold. There's no pride to be taken in snubbing a microwave, it's such a performative and hollow attitude to take, I want it scrubbed from the Earth.
