Just ate an orange and it was disgustingly sweet, almost no orange taste, just a sweet, sugary orange water. Maybe it's the variety, but I remember all fruit tasting less sweet as a kid.

I had the same thought when eating an apple the other day. It was like eating a sugar packet with apple skin on it.

Please tell me you have friends or a wall you could run this inane shit by.

Sugar is addictive and people are animals. All fruit has been bred for maximum shelf life and sweetness for decades. I've started to notice it more in the last few years myself.

You're probably eating a cultivar that's been bred to be extremely sweet or something. Try a different one

>> No.14631827

It's the same for me, op. I hate the majority of fruit, though and I don't like sweet things much in general.

Do you live in America? I had an American teacher who came to Brazil and told me that when he first went to a local supermarket he was disappointed by the size of the fruits and vegetables. But after one bite on an apple changed his opinion completely. He said that small apple had more taste than all big apples he bought in the US.

>muh GMOs
There are no GMO oranges. Why do people think all food is GMO when there are only 10 GMO foods available in the US?

sugar isn't addictive that's kind of oxymoronic since it's an essential nutrient, would be like saying air is addictive.
Fruit may have a natural evolutionary tendency to become less flavorful since the flavor aspect is an energy deficit probably remnant of a mechanism designed to prevent the fruit from being eaten (whether by insects or animals). Since we farm the fruit and remove these evolutionary pressures through pesticides etc the fruits most energy efficient state is to be just a ball of sugar and seeds which is what it will evolve towards (until humans find the lack of flavor negative and counter select cultivars with that trait).

idk I love how oranges taste now, what I don't like are the goddamn seedless watermelons. No flavor and no fun spitting out seeds.

Probably too ripe, I pick my own mangoes, picked it right before it's too ripe.

Idk about oranges, but doesn't fruit get sweeter the more ripe it gets in general?

Depends on your normal diet which your taste buds adjust too. Judging from your post you don't eat fruit regularly or have not done so for a while. You've grown accustomed to whatever food stuffs you eat so the contrast is all the greater when you try something different.
