Will jap whiskey ever return to reasonable prices? Will the scotch/bourbon bubble burst again soon? These and many other questions.

Bought a bottle of this recently. It's already below half full while almost all my other bourbons I've had for months longer are still at half or just below. It's really fucking good. It has a classic bourbon flavor in the beginning but then the finish is so nutty, woody, and creamy, it's like an orgasm. Bright fruit with cinnamon on the start, mellows into a burned sugar that then swells into a tart chocolate finish.

One of the best bourbons I've ever had, better than Buffalo Trace, and only moderately more expensive than it as well (it's around 40$ where I live). Don't go telling everyone about it though, I don't want to see it skyrocket in price.

>> No.14605294

>Will jap whiskey ever return to reasonable prices? Will the scotch/bourbon bubble burst again soon? These and many other questions.
I've never seen prices go down but I have seen prices jump overnight. It's funny watching a whiskey that you would get for $25 a bottle suddenly become a premium whiskey for $50+. It's still the same whiskey. I just stop buying it. I have a hard rule not to pay more than $30 for a bottle.

It's $10 more than entry level single malts. Glen Moray 15 is usually cheaper and blows it the fuck out.
The only Johnny with a justifiable price is black/double black since it fits between unaged bottom shelf and 10-12 year old single malts with very little competition.

Ginger grilled pork. Potato and egg salad. Kimchi. Edamame. Deep-fried octopus.
I am happy to have whiskey still cooked by my wife and a cup from the Edo period.
I love Japanese whiskey. But in terms of price and content, Scotch is still great.
Scotch presented the whiskey model to the world.
And the world chases Scotch. Bourbon. Japanese. Taiwan.
Bourbon quickly established its own world. Bourbon has shown its position to the world.
As a jockey that follows, can Japanese and Taiwan leave Scotch and discover their own world?

March of this year. I bought a new Japanese distilled whiskey.
I packed it in a small Chinese oak barrel.
Japan is hot in summer. Taiwanese whiskey takes advantage of the summer heat. But I didn't have the courage.
I put the barrel in the refrigerator. It's winter in Karuizawa.
When Japanese summer is over, I take it out of the refrigerator.
And next March. One year after I barreled it, I would swallow it.
...Probably garbage. I imagine that barrels will live a few times.
But that is my first step towards the unknown.
Whiskey I barrel-packed myself. I'm really looking forward to it.

Best cognac for the money in every price range is Hardy, but they're very tiny and have limited distribution. The XO typically runs 100 or so bucks, but the VSOP and Legend blend are very nice
Also recommend Hine VSOP

The other day I was about to grab my usual bottle of Evan Williams but instead went for a bottle of some Smart & Final brand whisky (technically its called "H&H 1871 Canadian Whisky" but we aint playing those games).

Even for only $14, I do not recommend. Get anything else. Evan Williams, Jim Beam, whatever. I know, what else did I expect? A grocery store brand whisky? Well, I was expecting it to taste shitty, and I typically have a good tolerance for shitty tasting things, but this one still caught me offguard. I felt as much regret as one can for $14 after that first sip. That said, I'm chugging it now and its ok. 5 stars

I agree with your review if you're just drinking it on its own.
It definitely helps for soju to be paired with some type of food. Traditionally, a lot of Korean BBQ.
It works well with mixers too, since its so mild tasting. Koreans even like mixing it in with their beer.
But yeah, I agree, on its own, its a somewhat boring flavor.

According to Australian guidelines, which are conservative, 7 per week is fine. But you're supposed to drink that in 2-3s, so technically you're binging.

UK gets 8 per week.
USA get's 14 for men and 7 for women. Neither UK/AUS have gendered recommendations any more.
