Using mayo is pretty common. Some people use butter for whatever reason. My grandma did this because a doctor told her using butter instead of mayo would help with her skin problems. I have a lot of food allergies and can't have mayo unless I make it myself, so a lot of the time I just use butter. Need to add something vinegary to make up for butter not being as acidic as mayo, but it can be good.

Butter and mustard on a swiss cheese sandwich is pretty nice.
