For me, it's the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChicken sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.

I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it's delicious! What a great restaurant.

There is a big annual (maybe not for covid) sandwich festival in Portland every year. Portland is basically home of the foodie, James Beard's hometown.

Anyway, a few years back, somebody entered a filet o'fish sandwich. Not from McDonalds, but with everything made fresh from scratch. Bun, breaded squared whitefish filet, half a slice of cheese, tartar sauce.

It was a huge favorite and there was a huge controversy because a lot of the hipsters hated it because it was a McDonalds riff. It ended up finishing in like a tied second place imaginary category.

I like it without the cheese. I can't exactly call it good but I still enjoy it. It's just delightfully bland. I love flavorful, spicy foods but sometimes I find myself in the mood for something squishy, bland, and inoffensive.

I have the air fryer attachment for the Instant Pot and my wife and I routinely make our own fillet of fish knockoff sandwiches. There are hundreds of types of breaded frozen fish, square or not, different types of fish (although mostly white fish). One thing that is important for the process to work well, give the fish and cooking surface a blast of canola aerosol on all sides. You can paint oil on by hand but for air frying the spray works much better, with less oil use and more even results.

Tartar sauce is basically mayo + diced pickle + herbs + lemon juice, very easy. Quality ingredients = quality results.

Recently made a Japanese milk bread (toasted) sandwich with some kind of fish and chips type breaded haddock cut with the McD-approved 1/2 cheese slice, tartar, butter lettuce, and pickled onions. Great shit. Next time I make something like that I’ll take pix and write it up.
