What are you currently drinking? What's your favorite?

I'm drinking pic related, opened my first bottle of it today. It's fantastic, like drinking a rich dessert. It could well become a favorite. Otherwise my favorites are Macallan 10, Lagavulin and Laphroaig.

Normally I'm a scotch man (I like Macallan 12 typically) but lately have been getting Four Roses bourbon. God damn. Americans in general have shit beer but this bourbon man, so good like you wouldn't believe. I don't live in the US and it's about $40/bottle for me but it's worth it

All I have now is this weird no name Irish whiskey I mostly got because of the bottle but the bottle sucks at pouring.

No it’s not, but you’re also not entirely wrong. Whiskey (all varieties) have been and continue to be extremely popular across the world. I’ve worked corn fields in rural Indiana and most low income folks love to buy cheap nasty whisky blends and mix it with coke They’re not doing it to be cool, it’s just a part of their lives like vodka in Eastern Europe. Ditto for middle class but they go more towards Wild Turkey and other popular $20-25 half handles. What you attempted to describe are the faggots who come into these threads and post their $80+ single malt bottle collections from their shitty apartments and dorm rooms as they desperately sniff their own farts and get high on how sophisticated and grown up they are. It’s fucking painful and I hate it and it’s super fucking obvious but nobody ever calls them out because most of the people who post here are passive aggressive losers who don’t want to jeopardize the small bit of social interaction they eek out. Drinking whiskey doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a faggot trying to be cool but if you’d could survey the population that drinks nicer bottles neat there’s definitely be a significant percentage that is doing it for the same reasons novels buy fedoras and girls dye their hair ugly colors.

I had a strange experience with Glenmorangie recently. I had opened a bottle and been enjoying it just fine, but after about a week or so I had another glass and it was like drinking something else completely. It was suddenly tasting much more rich and complex. Suddenly I was understanding why whiskey reviews are so gay and pretentious as they are, cuz it tasted just like that. Is there some science to this?

The best way is to go to a whisky bar, pick a price limit, and work your way down the menu buying half pours of each. Take a photo or jot down the names of any bottles you like.
Then find the cheapest whisky store with a decent range around you / online and buy bottles from that list when they are on sale for casual drinking.
When you reach the end of the menu either bump up your price limit and start again, or swap bars.

Second place goes to group buying with friends.

Third goes to events, whisky tourism, and formal clubs / memberships.

Fourth is buying a different bottle every time.

Last place goes to buying whisky at normal bars.

I think it tastes really good. I opened the bottle monday and am finishing it now wednesday. Next time I'll get myself two. It just goes down so easy. It's not complex but it's intense, the flavor is really strong and the burn is pleasant.

Besides, it costs the equivalent of about 45 USD here. For me it was worth it. Next time I'm getting myself two bottles.

I've gone through two bottles of it. It's amazing. Intense BBQ meat flavor. Smoky and savory with hints of sweetness and peat funk.
You'll be hard pressed to find a more intensely flavorful whiskey anywhere at any price. The heavily charred oak and the peat combine for just a sublimely smoky, savory experience.

Oh, quite oaky too, but not tannic. Some deep oak flavoring in there like you'd find in a 20 year old. Lost Spirits' speed aging is fucking legit.

Do you like Maker's 46? I tried some a few years ago and thought it was okay but not worth the price increase over their regular bourbon.

Reccomend me a good Rye? I've literally never had one.

Whiskey obsession started with Scotch on planes.

My favorite is the Willett's rye. Great stuff. For mid range budget sipping I like Templeton or Basil Hayden's rye. Bulleit is less good but still okay. Least expensive to still be pretty good: old overholt, rittenhouse. Use those to make cocktails

Unironically, I'm drinking a bottle of Costco Kirkland Signature 18 year speyside and bitch this shit is good. deep rich body, dried fruits, hints of port, subtle spice, buttery smooth.

Rittenhouse, Old Overholt, and Knob Creek are all pretty solid. Wild Turkey 101 if you can find it anywhere.
If you want to try a smaller batch distillery I'd go for High West Double Rye, Dad's Hat, or Wigle.

Haven't tried it and don't really like wheaters enough to buy a bottle when I already have a bottle of cask strength. If I ever see it in a bar I'd love to try some.

It costs $200, nobody was going to be swayed.
Besides everybody knows that Lagavulin 16 is great so would've expected great things from the distillers edition anyway.
