No dude, it's not just a "black burger", it used both squid ink and bamboo charcoal. It had this really nice tangy flavor to it, and black pepper.
But more than all that, I had about a month after I moved to Japan and about two months before my mother died, so it was one of the happiest periods of my life.

For some reason a Wendy's food quality is HEAVILY dependent on where the Wendy's is located.

The Wendy's in my local Florida hometown sits right at the edge of "Black Town" (Yes, locals still call it that to this day) and everything there taste like it has a hint of fish. Have 0 clue why.

Meanwhile, I was driving through North Carolina and just chose a random Wendy's off the main highway. They still had the old architecture and hadn't been converted into the new glass box style. Holy fuck one of the best Dave's Doubles I've ever had. That shit tasted like a fucking steakburger from Culver's/Steak and Shake.

So yeah, it really depends on what dipshits you have working in the back kitchen. For some reason I feel like McDonald's somehow idiot-proofed (as much as it can) its burger making routine, so shit tastes the same whether you're in California or Georgia.
