Do you consider Hot dogs significant enough of a food for their to be a sit down resteraunt dedicated to them, or would you consider them too lowbrow of a food to have more than a cart or fast food resteraunt for them?

We have a local sit down hot dog chain around here. I guess it technically is fast food but there's no drive thru only sit down and take out.

No but I'll go if they serve donuts and cereal

For a while in Surry Hills, NSW, Australia there was a sit down restaurant/bar which only served hot dogs. I guess it was kind of an Americana theme venue, with the doorway being styled as a secret entrance behind a jukebox to suggest a speakeasy.

The city I lived in before moving had a Japanese hot dog restaurant. I ate there once. Kind of a dumb novelty thing imo, not really worth dedicating a restaurant to, and I'd say the same thing about any kind of "higher brow" hot dog restaurant.

I think carts and take out is fine.

Somehow though, in a stretch of town without foot traffic, there's a hotdog joint that was just completely awful in every way. 17 years later and it's still there.

And it's their second location.

It can be done but you need the perfect storm of location, demand and menu that is probably impossible to reproduce these days

Hot dogs are not best in a sit-down restaurant.
Much better as to-go, or standing room only.

A big thing is, there's only really a couple ways to really properly dress up a hot dog and have it work, otherwise you're just throwing random shit on it for the sake of random shit to make it "Fancy".

plain brown mustard, chili dogs, Saurkraut or grilled onions and then dressing it up like a burger with tomatoes and peppers.
Past that there's not really a whole lot of ways to justify dressing up a dog and not ruining it, and its hard to build a resteraunt around that.

I went to a bar in memphis that had mostly hot dogs on the menu and it was pretty good. Nothing crazy, moreso bar than restaurant, but the dogs were good.
Not bardog btw, that place blows and can suck my nuts

Perfect for street cart. A pub style local joint in a college town could probably do it. Or a gay bar advertised as the opposite of Hooters: Wieners.
I don't like hotdogs and would prefer to go elsewhere.

Well you weren't invited anyways so there.
A pub style place could work given the right area.

They're solid if cooked right but I get sick from 'em half of the time, and there are at least 80 other things I'd rather eat. I would feed 'em to group of plebs for cheap though if I had to.

Hell no, they're worthless, but it's something when a little kid in high school, get a dog and a papya drink for like $2.

I only like beef hotdogs and hate Pork/whatever-falls-in-the-grinder dogs, is that normal?

I've been to plenty of "hipster" hot dog joints with 15-20 different dogs on the menu, and every single one of them was counter service only. The idea of having servers at a hot dog place just seems wrong.
