Mine did, but they also required you to have an authorized card to be let off, and if you had bad grades you were on a list to not be let off campus. My parents wouldn't sign the slip to let me get a card, so I had to wait until the yard duty was looking the other way, and run across the street.

My mom usually packed my lunch, I would only buy on days they had pizza or chicken rings (just ring shaped chicken nuggets). At my middle school they had pizza as an option every day but I still usually only bought lunch like once a week. They had chocolate chip cookies on Tuesday and those were AMAZING. Huge and soft. My elementary school had vanilla, strawberry, and orange flavor milk cartons and those were great.

my school had open lunch so we were supposed to leave and fend for ourselves
however prior to that in the younger years I liked the chicken pattys which were always soggy with sauce, the steakum sandwiches which were always dry (I was the only one who liked those) and off the a la carte options it was always the curly fries and pizza rolls
I'd do chicken rings sometimes too

pizza was ok but not great, same with the bacon cheese burgers. Popcorn chicken was good when they had it
and then there's the spaghetti and meatballs. NOBODY ordered spaghetti and meatballs so the serving was always gigantic if you got some, so if you were very hungry that day it's always the way to go

but then highschool happened and there was no more cafeteria as I said so on most days it was a BBQ chicken slice, penne alla vodka in a bread bowl, a chicken caesar wrap, or a sesame bagel with cream cheese and lox
living like savages I tell you

I think it’s because in the 80’s/90’s school food was actually kinda based and then sometime during the 90’s the government decided to just feed kids slop laced with chemicals as some sort of social experiment. By the time the Obama’s came around, people were already kvetching about how shitty school food was, so they just made sure it was “healthy” and “well-balanced” according to retarded American health standards partially funded by the dairy industry, so they decided to make it somewhat better and more presentable as well.

When I was in elementary/middle school, I could hardly stand any of the slop they passed off as food, but by high school things were considerably better. It’s definitely regional too. Some schools are just better.

They would rotate daily, but I almost always went to the sub station throughout highschool. They would sometimes do knockoff kfc bowls and those were pretty good. Pasta with meat sauce was alright, too. As always, the chocolate milk was great, and we always got pic related until Obama took them out in 2010.

funny because this school was in RGV texas and we didn't have anything like that. had the choice of chef salad or the grilled chicken. the grilled chicken breast strips were great. best part was after putting in the dressing and croutons and stuff, you put the lid on it and shake everything up so you could get a good mix in every bite.

My school had spicy chicken sandwich fridays, they were really good. Also taco tuesdays, they had soft shell tacos too. My school lunches were pretty decent overall, never really had that stereotype of gross school lunches going on.
The only thing I didn't really like were the vending machine drinks, my school didn't sell soda for health concern reasons so they sold fruit drinks instead which was cool. But holy fuck, they were absurdly sweet. The pink lemonade was the only one I could really tolerate, the rest were so sweet I felt that I was giving myself diabetes just drinking them.
The sugar content in those had to be way fucking higher than those in the same sized coke can.

I went to a public boarding school here in the UK and by public school I mean private school.

So we had pretty decent food mostly cooked from scratch, not much different to home cooked food with plenty of meat. We had classic British dishes, lots of fish, curries, pizza days, mexican days with lots of soups, salads, fruit, milk and brunch/afternoon rolls/cake.

But probably my favourite school food was house toast, lots and lots of toast.
