An old 40s GE would be great though. locking door and all... Funny how back then not that many kids were dumb enough to get inside one..that really didn'r start happening until the 60s when everyone and their brother was getting all the "New and Exciting" appliances in avocado green and harvest gold, and trundling the old ones out to the curb for the young hide and seekers to succumb to.
Still, those old fridges were like tanks.
Really wish American manufacturing would do away with planned obsolescence and get back to making stuff that lasted 30 years like that again.
Seems the business model could change to peripheral upgrades and service instead, and still be viable.

French door fridges are trendy elitist garbage. They never work right, and it looks like there's more room but there totally isn't. Side by side is the patrician's choice. If you're not freezing a bunch of stuff, and you're American, you're wasting money. Side by side fridge has best space distribution, and wastes less energy since you aren't opening two giant doors every time you open the fridge. Side by side freezer with two bottom drawers is top organizational tier, and doesn't waste space in the fridge for the ice maker, which will always break in a French door model.

>> No.14418767

>>14418415
Side by side is absolute shit. I regularly want to place a entire large baking sheet, pizza box, etc, in the fridge, and with a side by side it is simply impossible. Standard bottom freezer is okay, but the big advantage of French door isn't that it "has more room" (????), but that you can more easily access the items on the doors, and access things in the fridge without letting out as much cold air, since you often don't need to open both doors.

That's not true in most of the units I deal with though, which was my point. It's only pretty low-end models that have a single refrigerating system with fall-through. Most of the ones I work with a dual-evaporator, with this sort of system.

generally cabinet designers know the widths and depths of commonly available appliances.

30" for a standard oven
30-36" is standard for fridges, with ~29-35" of depth.

Some larger fridges from major manufacturers (like sub-zero) go up to 42 or 48" wide.

But in any case, if your cabinet installer made sure it fit within the common widths and depths, you should generally be able to find something that slides right in.

The biggest expense for walk-ins is the space they take up.
