I don't think it has anything to do with shortages. Meat production is still going up. The USA alone produces enough meat for half of the world to eat more than half a pound of it every day. But there are still more people trying to eat less meat for multiple reasons. I don't think it will be successful long-term once lab-grown meat becomes commercially viable though.

Nothing in the commercial really said meat is bad for you. I think most people try to eat less meat because they start to realize how the mindlessly eat it without fully appreciating it because they don't have to see the animals being slaughtered for it. I think it's a good idea for most people to eat less meat until they know what it's like for their body to crave it and they fully appreciate it. This 50/50 stuff doesn't seem like a good idea to me though, it's a way to pat yourself on the back but not really change much.

Mainly for the protein, you really can't beat animal protein for building the proper amount of muscle, but you'll become deficient in a few things if that's all you eat. Also, stuff like liver provides more iron and vitamin A which is good sometimes, though it's easy to have too much and it shouldn't be eaten in large amounts every day. The most healthy thing for you is usually a balanced diet that includes everything from each food group while limiting processed foods, and not eating too much in general.

I was vegetarian for years and I'm not against other people doing it. Even though I'll eat meat once in a while now, one thing that I still appreciate is just seeing what it was like to go without meat until my body needed it, instead of me eating it just because I wanted to. So this 50/50 thing might not bring other people to that point to benefit from it. But, I guess it could still be a good thing. I don't totally support eating meat and I hope lab-grown meat eventually gets perfected and I can eat that instead, but if this helps that happen too then I'd be happy.

If you feel bad or sluggish after eating either of those then maybe it's not so great. That means you're not treating it enough with soaking, fermenting or pressure cooking or your genetics don't allow you to handle beans/lentils.

Daily reminder that the most vegetarian country on earth, India, has only a 25% adherence rate. 75% of the country eats meat. (obviously less of it than in the us)

This commercial is the compromise that takes the best of the vegan diet (less toxic tryptophan/methionine, more phytonutrients/fiber) and the best of the standard diet (adequate tryptophan, bioavailable protein) and combines them

ofc people still want to pretend that eating only beans or eating 3lbs of meat a day is healthy

It's pretty easy to alter a test so you get a different outcome. They could've just taken a piece of the edge where it had more seasoning so it would test like that. I'm not trying to defend Subway, I think they're a ripoff and I really hate those half slices of cheese they use, but falling for what is essentially clickbait instead of focusing on real problems doesn't help.
