I really hate the new style of fastfood interiors.

Bench seating which you avoid because you don't want to end up sitting next to a family of strangers and those tables where one-side is a bench and the tables are so close that if there's someone in the table next to you, they get a face full of crotch/arse when you squeeze out

I unironically hate eating at fast food chains mostly because of their soulless, oppressive atmosphere
when there's a lot of people there with screaming kids and they're all sitting right next to you in these disgusting artificial interiors with the blandest most non-descript music I've ever heard playing on the radio, it all makes me feel like I'm in some consoomerist dystopia like in Brave New World or some shit

They've all gone downhill. Fast food has extremely thin margins so it's all about cutting costs everywhere to save a penny here, a nickel there. It's a race to the bottom in terms of quality.
That being said, I think KFC has dropped the most. My wife worked there in high school in the 90s and it's amazing how different things got after Yum brands bought them. Biscuits used to be made daily from scratch, now it's a mix. Gravy was also scratch with fresh cracklins from the fryer, it was awesome. Now it comes from a big bag of factory slop and you can taste it.

They did that decades ago and it was horrible. The controllers had the shit beat out of them, half the buttons were broken, the plastic over the screens was so scratched you couldn't even see the game, and everything was covered in grease and sticky soda residue.

Definitely KFC. I realize I hadn't been since I was a kid and used to love it so I went 4 times over 2 weeks and not only was it the most dried out shit, they never got my order right. And 2 of the times, it wasn't even close, like the totally wrong meal. McDonalds has bad service, but it's usually that they forgot fries or dipping sauces or something. KFC, I was the only car there and it took them 15 minutes to give me the wrong shit. I hope they bankrupt.

I know this isn't located in several states but Steak n Shake. It used to be a nice casual sit down restaurant that happened to have a drive thru. It was always more expensive than large chain fast food and it was fucking worth every penny. It was vastly superior and they regularly sent out coupons so you could get a great meal for the same price as McDonald's. They got bought out by some tight wad investment banker/group around 2009 and have been getting worse by the year. The majority of the locations in St. Louis have closed. They had started a program to give a store to a person for $10,000 after they completed their gold standard training program. Only 1 of them have reopened so far and with covid, it's unlikely any will ever open up again. There should be an entire college business course on how not to run a business with SnS being the full subject matter. It's pretty sad to see this once great chain wither away.

In 2018, Steak 'n Shake changed its business model to a franchise partner system, with Biglari attempting to turn all of the 400+ company-owned restaurants into franchise operations. Entrepreneurial single-unit operators could take control of an existing Steak 'n Shake for $10,000, an unusually low price, but would need to turn over fifty percent of the restaurant's profits to Steak 'n Shake.[11] The firm remained heavily indebted, however. As of April 2020, its debt was rated as a low C/D "speculative" grade by bond rating agencies, colloquially known as junk bonds. The Washington Post considered the chain extremely likely to default with a low likelihood of recovering, with the restaurant closings due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States being an unrecoverable blow to the firm.

It was just some Iranian that got lucky during the dot com bubble and has done nothing but fail since then. He ruined a great thing and I hope he suffers greatly.

The thing that pisses me off the most about McDonald's is that they no longer give franchisees the liberty to theme their restaurants to their liking. All of the ones in Orlando used to have some kind of unique theme (going as far as to advertise them as McFun), which has all been nixed in favor of generic dogshit due corporate mandate.

>>14408379
I moved back to the US for university then stayed and currently still live here. When I was in HS here, Popeyes was tits. Best fast food ever. During my time at uni, I ate more White Castle than anything because it wasn't too far and there were no Popeyes. Fast forward several years after I'd finished school and I had the option to get Popeyes again. So I did. And it was awful. The quality had dropped so drastically, it should've had a show on CW.
This was around the time BK bought them out and I'd figured that the lower quality of the food must have been because of that.
So yeah: Popeyes.

if you don't enjoy the look of a nice newly built food court I feel sad for you. Those places can be gorgeous with all the decor, light fixtures, ceiling treatments, various floor levels and stuff. At least that's what that seems like to me, can't pinpoint a particular restaurant myself.

Wendy's does the best modern presentation. International McD's look nicer than stateside ones alot (Americans are really disrepectful of shit, we're a messy dirty people). Pizza chains don't look to bad IMO but who's actually dining in or picking up at those places these days? I am nostalgiac for old Pizza Hut though, family was poor so we ate there often. I remind shittty those frosted red plastic cups so well, so many restuarants had them but all the family casual places we went and Pizza Hut's were the most memorable.

For nostalgia, it was great! in reality, it was shit.
If you're lucky and go to small towns in the south or midwest you can STILL see restaurants with old decor, but they changed for a good reason.
Pizza hut is the best example, the old wood and carpet absorbed heat, smells, and debris. So the pizza hut always smelled bad. The wood furniture were shaped in an odd way that trapped crumbs and garbage between seats and booths that made it impossible to clean. Then the wood that and stained glass that aged terribly and stained easily. It was OK cause you could have got a decent pizza there, but once their pizza became worse. You just never went to pizza hut. This pretty much happened to all restaurants hence why they all look the same "Clean and Simple."
