Still need to prep beforehand
Which is most of the skill needed.

If you're trying to equate skill with setting a timer or correct temperature on an oven you're mistaken.

So it's a pressure cooker with a high temperature convection fan all in one unbelievable bulky, large footprint machine? Well, air fryers are basically useless if you have an oven, so this is for people who own neither an oven nor a pressure cooker? Is it aimed at people living in city apartments with no amenities?

I have one, it's actually pretty decent

Let's me make spaghetti and meatballs with 0 effort and you can finish it off with parmesan and 5 mins in the air fryer for a nice crunch

>spaghetti and meatballs with 0 effort
So you can boil pasta in it at the same time as finishing a tomato sauce?

>> No.14352140

>>14352130
No, you don't need to boil it. Steps:

Air fry frozen meatballs then remove
Add water, spaghetti, and sauce. pressure cook
Add back meatballs, stir, add parm, then air fry for the finisher. All of this takes ~35 mins btw

Tbh I ended up returning mine because it takes the fun out of cooking, all you do is press a few buttons and wait

What the actual fuck? When did you make the sauce?

When did you make the meatballs?
Obviously it takes zero effort if you magically manifest all the components of the meal from the ether.

Just get a convection oven. And before someone bitches about how it takes too long to preheat, buy a double oven so you don't have to heat the whole thing to cook smaller portions.

The only good reason to buy one of these is if you have no room or money for real deal.

>> No.14358237

>>14352063
>air fryers are basically useless if you have an oven

Air fryers make ovens obsolete.

>> No.14358299

I think air fryers are a great idea, even though the name and initial marketing are misleading at best. They should have been upfront and called it what it is, a small efficient oven.

While I love the convenience of having a giant home oven that can cook two turkeys at once, it's an absolute waste of time and electricity to preheat it in order to cook one or two portions of food on any given weeknight.

how messy is frying in a pot? i have no place for a real fryer but there are basket inserts for ordinary pots to fry with them
will i have grease fumes making the whole room and interior sticky? (i sadly dont have a cooker hood)

I bought one of these because I wanted a pressure cooker and air fryer. Use it every day and the regular oven is only used for dishes like lasagne and pasta bake. It heats up a lot faster than an oven and it's nonstick so very easy to clean.

>> No.14359302

>>14352035
I got an instant pot before I really learned to cook because "hey, all in one" I break it out once in a blue moon. Usually only as a pressure cooker. It sucks to brown things since all the heat is concentrated right over the half-dollar sized heating element. If it did good even heating, it'd be a great device.

>> No.14359811

>>14359285
>it's nonstick
does this mean teflon coating which will come off if you're not careful?

>> No.14360254

>>14359302
This is why I recommend people just buy a stove top pressure cooker. Can brown things super easily, and same goes for reducing liquid. They're also quicker.

>Evidently
Your process must be faulty, the evidence doesn't support your conclusion. An air fryer is literally an oven. Unless you have incredibly shitty appliances, the only thing an air fryer does is take up space on a countertop when you could just use your oven. I don't know about you, but I have enough shit on my countertop not to want an extra, tiny, oven to take up space above my oven.
Everyone who cooks for a family should already have a 65L fan assisted oven that hits about 500F. Most of us have better than that. My big oven is 70L and goes to 275C as a convection oven and 285C with the top element running as well (it refers to this as 'combination oven/broil'). If I want to fry something I have a wok burner, and if I want to oven cook something I have an actual decent oven.
