>pour a tall cold glass of water
>set it up in what seems like a safe place
>knock it over minutes later
I swear, this happens at least once a week. Where in the goddamn is a grown man supposed to place his drink?

On a table or counter. Be conscious of its placement, and drink it before it's no longer cold.

Get a tervis, starbucks, or other strawhole-lidded tumbler. If you need to buy one, go all the way for a keep cold, vacuumed insulated double walled metal one, but top rack dishwasher sized tumbler, not too tall. When you find exactly the perfect tumbler and give it a test run, buy 3 or more because they'll soon discontinue it.
Then, rotate them in and out of the dishwasher to your workstation, your car, and not washing it on demand every time you want a refill.

A rubbery bottom means a bump is less likely to move and topple over, and a lid means barely anything flies out, so you rescue it and have minimal mess. Set it down in an open box like structure, a sleeve or holster. Get creative!

At my work office? My computer is not owned by me, and has some stupid replacement value that includes a service contract, think 6k for a piece of crap. So, long ago, I figured out my system.
It is an L-shaped desk means I can put the drink on the other table, not the one with my computer. It is just to the right of and beyond my phone there, on the separate table, but exactly in a single arms reach distance of my nondominant hand. Sippysippy, set it down again. Never spilled it once and if I did, ehh, not a big deal. IMPORTANT: once you have your system, you have brain memory, so stick to your system! You set it down in the same exact place every time, and you will never sort of not see it in some random new spot and tip it over in haste. Be organized and your brain will help you.

Pic has a flip sealing lid you can open and seal between sips and avoid all spills, but I would keep it open and use a straw.

your living space is too cluttered. look around you. anything you haven't directly interacted with in 2 weeks is probably invisible to you. SEE what's around you, then throw it out and keep what you need
