There was a brief time when I got nervous telling someone that I was into wine, or whiskey, or beer, because I had this expectation in the back of my head that when they asked me questions I'd be expected to be an expert on everything and have well thought out ideas on this or that. I've since grown up and become an alcoholic, so I no longer care about "being a connoisseur" and just drink the things I enjoy.

definitely, if you've been to whisky events you'll get the impression you're at magic gathering. there's a massive discrepancy between what marketing suggests is the average whisky drinker and what actually ends up being the end consumer. also, most whisky isn't even worth a third of its price but that's another story.
