I started using soy sauce for stews and sauces and things like that instead of just salt. Works pretty well especially if it's a fatty sauce and you add a bit of vinegar too.

Those stock pots have some actual stock in them but also salt/sugar/MSG so it's going to add more flavor than salt alone just from those.
