Good raw beef smells almost sweet and appetizing. If it's not that good then it just has a funky kind of smell that isn't particularly appetizing to me.

I think my favorite is cooking onion in bacon fat. Popcorn and jasmine/basmati rice all have a similar kind of smell that's really nice too.
