In South America, you can go to the nearby open market (feiras livres) - there are dozen in my town alone - and choose a live chicken, duck or even small mammals (like rabbits or goats). And the vendor will kill, clean and butcher the animal.

If is a chiken or rabbit they probably do it in the spot, goats and pigs are broght to a nearby slaughterhouse because they have to bleed out for considerable amout of time.

I live in Philadelphia. There are a few small wet markets here dealing mostly with chickens and occasionally ducks and rabbits. One also sells pigeons. There're also two small abattoirs. One is mostly for Arabs and general Muzzies and the other is mostly for Mexicans and generally 'spanics. From either, you can make rather large orders of meat, like entire beef quarters or a side of lamb or a whole fucking goat to roast.
The wet markets are all Chinese owned and fucking reek. They inexplicably smell of fish. How the fuck a place that slaughters chickens winds up smelling of fish I'll never know. They're also dirty/poorly maintained, so another thing I'll never know is how in the fuck health and safety/licensing and inspection have never gotten around to shutting any of them down.
I have no problem with either abattoir because they're both cleanly and because I'm from a country which has wet markets/abattoir shops, anyway.

The whole idea of live markets being some kind of evil was more of an animal rights thing before but now the concept's scaring even people who care less about that just because of all the Wuhan publicity. But when the reality is just typical farm animals and not wild animals, it's nothing new and nothing scary. Keeping an animal alive until it's time to kill it and sell it is what farmers have been doing since forever.

Depends what you mean by wet markets, on-site slaughter isn't necessarily a prerequisite. Food markets like the Adelaide Central Markets or the food side of Queen Victoria Markets in Melbourne count.

I live in the country so my local butcher does slaughtering on their premises and on site with their truck, and they're a really damn good butcher.

You can find a local ranch or farm and many will clean the animal into rough cuts for you or a mobile butcher/ local butcher would do it for you too. Wet markets are fine as long as they are clean and don’t have wild and domestic animals mixing like garbage chine. If you go to Mexico or South America they are still common but they just have farm animals and maybe one snake guy selling snake skin but people don’t eat that unless they are starving lol that’s for boots and wallets
