Either way, US military justice (and NATO and pretty much other nation) tailors its internal justice mechanism based on international treaty, whether they've signed them or not. The US is a big elephant in the room with not ratifying agreements, but its UCMJ is one of the most strictly enforced one based on them.

I think proper forestry involves responsible timbering, but nobody makes any attempt to restore old growth forests at all. I personally hate young forests. They're tangled, hot, bug infested messes. And old growth forest however, is cooler, denser, and much mire beautiful. So preservation does have its place. It had its place 200 years ago when we started cutting, and it had its place 100 years ago when we cut down the last 1000 year old oak. That should have never happened.
