Ketel one is pretty dank, russian standard, reyka, goose, belvedere. I'm not super into vodka, but as long as it has a clean taste I tend to like it.

The syrupiness of vodka is usually when it is extremely cold. That will happen to pretty much any brand.

I was in your position a few months ago. Titos was the cleanest vodka that I tried, but it was too expensive.

Now I just buy the cheapest vodka, water it down until it's 10%adbv, then I pour it into a cup which is half filled with store brand soda.
The way I see it, anything that's above 10% abv, with the exception of certain brands of wine and IPAs, is going to taste like shit.

There's nothing to get into, it's just ethanol and water. It is, by definition, flavorless. You can make it from literally anything from wheat to toilet paper and get the exact same product.

If you like clear, clean spirits, you can always try unaged rums, tequilas, or gin. All of these have plenty nuance and depth to enjoy, though the aged counterparts are even better.

>by definition, flavorless. You can make it from literally anything from wheat to toilet paper and get the exact same product
this is just dumb, anyone with tastebuds can tell the difference between a nice smooth vodka and some total swill - vodka is mostly ethanol and water, but it also contains some leftover impurities which can be pleasant or unpleasant, just like unaged rum
of course vodka has big diminishing returns, a lot of marketing bullshit and it doesn't really make sense to use top-shelf stuff for mixing, but just try blind tasteing a Tesco Value against a Belvedere or something and you'll see the difference is night and day

I used to be really into vodka. Its taste varies, while not as developed as a whiskey or bourbon which is known to attract more crafty and aged products. a good vodka should have a refreshing taste almost like mineral water very initially which lasts for maybe half a second, it will then transition into a subtle sweet, wheat flavor as most vodka is made with wheat. There can be hints of citrus or spices possiblly but again is very subtle.
The thing about vodka is if you want the full experience you have to be willing to spend money on it. Some that I recommend straight up are Grey goose chilled. Kettle one. Dont buy ciroc. For cocktails Tito's is preferred.
The reason some anons might think that vodka just tastes like gasoline or ethanol is because they are buying popular mass production products. Good vodka needs love like any other good liquor.

sums up to: the less it tastes, the better it is. That's why, whatever your choice is, the most important thing is how do you drink your vodka. You should put it in the freezer (not fridge, freezer) for at least few hours, before you drink it (don't worry it won't freeze). Then you drink that so cold that is thick vodka from short glasses. Prepare pickled cucumbers (better yet soured ones), some orange juice to push (if you need it) and wa la.

It's an old picture from last year.
Had a lot of old bottles and wanted to find out how much booze I was throwing away with empty bottles.
Answer: not much.
100 bottles of which more than 80 turned out to be completely empty, 2 had roughly a quarter shot each and the rest had only a few drops.
