What's actually happening is meat processor employees are calling in sick either because they are or because they don't want to risk getting sick at work, and meat companies are destroying their livestock to waste the meat and get a tax writeoff instead of taking the like two business days of extra effort to just ship live chickens to community centers and let them process them.
That might not work everwhere, but here in flyoverville if you gave the town some of the 2 million chickens that got destroyed, people would just process and freeze them themselves.
