What kettle does /ck/ use? How long have you had it and are you happy with it?

Pic related recently shat the bed on me so I need another. Mine lasted 3 years (2 of which were trouble free) but the price has doubled, so I want a different model.

I have that one. It annoys me when it stops the temperature hold when you pick it up, otherwise I guess it's fine

How did yours break?

different anon but yeah that's definitely annoying. I've had a few brews ruined because I forgot to put the temperature hold back on after prewarming my glass

The temperature started reading too low but generally a good whack to the base would set it straight for a while. But the last few weeks, it's been reading 170-180 while continuing to heat past the 205 set point. Sticking a meat thermometer through the vent holes is serviceable, but less responsible people than myself use it and I'm worried it'll get left on and eventually overheat. There's no buildup of scale or anything obvious that would cause the problem.

I'd make a recommendation, but I've just got my plain clear electric kettle that just gets the water as hot as possible and auto shuts before starts boiling over. You probably want something with more features. I should probably see if Capresso makes kettles with a gooseneck like yours.

i have this cheap little jap one and it's never given me any trouble with rust or leaking or anything, the only thing of note is instead of whistling it just has 3 little holes in the lid and just rattles when it boils.

I don't care if it's good or not. The design irritates me. Like it came out of a Bang & Olufsen catalog. However good the product is, it's obviously aimed at people who don't know any better.

It pretty much wins every coffee kettle comparison reviews. The handle looks over-designed, but every reviewer says it feels very secure and balanced when pouring with just one hand. The opening at the top is large enough for an adult man to reach in there to give it a thorough cleaning, and the lid stays securely in its place.

I got this one as a birthday present from my parents. It's great, but it only has a couple of pre-set temperatures (80, 85, 90, 95, 100 C). I would like to for 60-70 C for some green teas.

I have a few of these things at my shop and they are great. If you don't like the look of them I guess I get that but they are the best functionally.

Am I the only one who pours from my bonavita with "only" one hand? Since when was there any question about one-handed control? What would you even do with the other hand? I'm usually pretty tolerant of clumsy marketing but come on. They need to hire better people.

Not as far as I know. I ended up ordering another since it went on sale. I was kinda creeped out by the timing but now it's dropped $5 more and I'm peeved I didn't wait a few more hours.

That's the exact one I use. I have no issues with it besides first post about stopping the temperature hold, but it usually doesn't affect me.

>> No.13993573

>>13993538
Reason I ask is there's no safety cutoff. If you run it empty the coils will go to nuclear hot but the sensor depends on circulating water to tell when to stop. So it may register 70 degrees but the actual coils are like 300 degrees because it's just heating air. Not the smartest design ever.

Since you mentioned having roommates or something, I wonder if someone broke it and didn't say anything.

OXO Gooseneck Variable Temp. Significantly cheaper than the Stagg, has single unit incremental control from boiling all the way down to like 100-something F, is accurate within 1-2 degrees across its whole temperature range, and is absolutely bulletproof. I ended up having to submerge the whole base in water and it still works fine.
