I think OP was raised on cheap stock, which is like the cheaper version of meat water with less flavour. Basically stock is to meet water as Kraft parmesan is to parmigiano-reggiano or Velveeta to melted cheddar.

When a dish is served with a bowl of basic white rice, it's meant to be enjoyed as it's been prepared. The chef has considered the flavors they want you to experience and prepared your food in such a way. Sushi is another example. The chef has already put wasabi and shit on it because that's the taste combo and texture they were going for. To dump a fuck ton of soy sauce onto your specially prepared sushi is considered rude and ungrateful to the chef's hard work.

I made this for breakfast, came out pretty good. separate the yolk and mixed the egg white in with the rice first. then put the yolk on top along with seasoned salt (basically msg+salt+food coloring) and soy (low sodium) sauce
