I've always wondered why this bread was so popular.

>> No.13956040

It's inoffensive and goes with all sandwich toppings. Also people get used to it as a child.

I've always wondered who actually still buys that stuff. Are they just kept in business by Southern restaurants?

When I was a kid and my taste buds were virginal, wonder bread tasted like cake. So it's the kids that like this sugary stuff.

Bunny bread is the GOAT enriched sliced bread product

>> No.13958721

I'm not one of those people who sperg about every American food but my god your store bought bread is fucking awful. So fucking bad. Bought a loaf (can't remember the brand) when I was visiting a friend but it genuinely tastes like cake and I hear this is the case for most of them (the cheaper ones anyway). You can go into a store in the UK and get decent, bread tasting bread for less than a quid. In general your bread and a lot of your condiments taste disgustingly sweet.

>> No.13958758

I usually buy hillbilly. I don’t eat a sandwich for the bread. It’s mainly a buffer so my hands don’t get dirty.

You can get good bread here in every grocery store. People buy crappy bread because it’s cheap and that’s what their kids want.

>> No.13958784

>>13958721
Yeah you basically have to buy the hipster $5 a loaf bread if you want anything remotely palatable from the average supermarket. A lot of the grocery stores have in-house bakeries too but they don't turn out anything of quality either.

Some places do get daily bread deliveries from local bakeries, that's where you'll find the actually good bread. Upscale and organic supermarkets like Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Lazy Acres tend to have a lot better selection and quality from the in-house bread too.

Don't get me started on cheese, similar problems exist there too

>> No.13958811

its mainly marketing and supply, it's not that people want wonder bread, it's that it's what stores supply.
there are some benefits to it over a similar cheap loaf
it's lengthened shelf life makes it a good choice for people who eat less bread, and at the price it's fairly perfect for the thrifty who don't let any dime go to waste.
i've found it freezes better than a lot of other mass produced breads too, the texture doesnt change no matter how long its been frozen, you still get that kinda moist kinda chewy sponge.

if you use it for nothing more than sandwiches you'll never any problems with it, but you'll never have compliments either

>>13958784
>>13958721
it really is a damn shame too that in store bakeries can't even compete with the stock on their own shelves, they spend all that money building the department, buying the equipment, use garbage recipes, and hire garbage staff who can't even account for humidity.
I'll still often buy a big bag of the day old breads, but thats only because its 2 dollars for like 4kg of bagels and cheese buns
