I just got into 45 minute debate with a friend over whether a pulled pork sandwich counts as a burger
I'm sane so I obviously said no, but it led to heated argument and neither of us have come to a conclusion
What is the definition of a burger and does a pulled pork sandwich fit into it?

Burgers are some shit ground up, formed into a patty, and served on a bun. Of course there are exceptions (chicken patties on a bun are sandwiches even if made from reconstituted meat, and a protein style burger is still a burger, etc.), but of fucking course a pulled pork sandwich isn't a burger. A burger is a type of hot sandwich that has 2 essential ingredients. A bun and a patty. Pulled pork is not a burger since the pork is not formed into a patty.

If it is not on a bun, or if the middle of the sandwich does not contain a formed patty, it is not a burger.

You're just being pedantic. He clearly means sandwich bread. If you have a patty on sandwich style bread, AKA cut from a loaf and not a bun, it is not a burger it is a patty melt.

He's still a retard though, a bun does not immediately make something a burger. There needs to be a formed patty as well.

I think then it comes down to personal beliefs. For me anything other than a bun makes it not a burger, but some other misc. sandwich. Additionally, if a "burger" is served cold it is not a burger. If it was prepared warm, then you put it in your fridge and ate it later, then it would classify as a left over burger.

In America, a burger is a sandwich made with either a ground beef patty, or something imitating it, like a turkey burger or veggie burger

A beef patty on sandwich bread is still a burger (a burger is a type of sandwich after all), but something with a chicken patty like a McChicken is not a burger, it's a chicken sandwich
