Not to be a giant bitch, but I just cannot get into alcohol. I smoke weed and cigarettes like a chimney and love pretty much all varieties of drugs besides disassociatives, but alcohol just always makes me feel tired or sick. The flavor is somewhat interesting, but it also is really hard for me to dose it without shots because beer just takes too long to get down and makes me feel worse after.

I type this novel not simply to bitch, but to ask you all if you've tried like literally any other drugs? There are watbetter highs out there with similar or lesser risk profiles. I just don't get the alcoholic life. Can someone give me a breakdown of why alcoholics choose the substance of abuse they do? Hine 2009 Lignieres-Sonneville Single Cask Private Selection, 9 yrs old, non-chill filtered at 43.7% abv.

Nose: honeysuckle, candied peaches, golden apples, allspice. Underpinning of plantains. Very fresh.
Palate: Incredibly soft, wood comes in late. Much more plantain-heavy upfront, warming spice like clove linger towards the finish. On the drier side for cognac, alcohol burn doesn't show until the very end. Lightest touch of honey as the oaky tannins fade. It's good, worth the price I got it at (~80), but I wouldn't pay retail for it (~140)

Reminds me of a 12 yr brandy from Hospices De Beaune that I bought. Less waxy banana here, though. I'm glad it's not sweet, part of the reason I prefer Hine over most other mid-shelf cognacs.

2007 is white-hot, but it's one of the best rums under $100. I compare it to a barrel-proof bourbon, except the sweetness is much more in line with creme brulee/bananas foster. Pretty much demands either a few drops of water or being poured 30 mins before you plan on drinking it. If you're a fan of higher-proof pours, you'll like it.

The blended whiskey is just a tricky label. For something that was supposedly around 20 I would have thought it was just cheap whiskeys blended together, and not a cheap whiskey with a neutral grain. just give them a little longer to settle. even better is after the majority of their bubbling stop (3-5 days) stick it in the fridge and let it sit for another week or 2. It lets all the nasties settle out, and then you can either strain it or just pour out the good part into a glass. Won't taste good, but it will get you there.

Yes, these seem to be right, but it's not the whole story. A six pack a day just isn't that much booze - it might make you an AA Alcoholic but by the standards of al/ck/ level alcoholism it just doesn't register. No adult male is blacking out, vomiting, etc. after drinking a six pack.

But just you try drinking a six pack a day for twenty years and not having that turn into eight, twelve, a case, a pint of vodka, a handle every two days, and so on. That's where the real risk comes from.

Depends on the bottling. Old Bowmore is some of the best whisky ever made, stuff from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Those and Bowmore Black is now on the insane side of whisky auction markets, so unlikely to find them. There's some good indie bottlings, but they're pricey. I frankly find most of the modern official bottles Bowmore to be boring. Overly cask influenced and shit sherry cask selection. There may be some good ones out there, but Bowmores I try first at a bar before thinking of buying.

I've been smoking everyday since May 2013. I love weed. I've lost friendships and girls over it and spent over 10k on buying it - I don't care. It makes me feel immersed in stuff, I find things more interesting and novel, food tastes better, it helps my Crohn's disease etc etc.
I love alcohol because it makes me feel confident, social, happy and it makes activities more enjoyable. It is a very different kind of 'high'. When you get to the tolerance of being able to get blazed and drunk at the same time it is a magnificent feeling. You get all the benefits of weed but the social/confident aspect of alcohol. Everyone is different - as the anon before me said some people just get paranoid when they smoke weed and some people just feel sick and tired when they get drunk.
