I've just started fucking with vodka; bought a <$7 bottle of Calibur vodka, have been mixing it with wild cherry juice and enjoying the taste and the drunk.
What is the advantage of drinking more expensive vodka? Does it really taste so different? Is it a different drunk? Less burn? Also, what are the best mixers?

Being told by your family they are worried about you can be pretty heart breaking. Been there my self. Best way to get them to stop is to get your drinking down to a manageable level. So only drink once or twice a week and try stick within the recommended amount. Only reason i stopped was because the thought of having my family watch me slowly die of liver failure scared the shit out of me. Try switch to weed if possible. At least with weed you won't die within a matter of years.

I don't care about myself. I do care about them. Telling them to sink is something i'd rather not do. Did that with one uncle and I still regret it. Mind you he still texts me fucking bible quotes but i'm pretty sure that's because he thinks I am possessed. Got drunk and told him i'd kill him and his daughter if he didn't leave me alone.
Not my proudest moment. But the sentiment was there.

Anyway picked up 3 handles of Taaka 100 proof today. Made a joke about "stocking up just in case" and the old guy working the register (good guy) got me into a discussion about how our state considers booze stores essential. He said it was because of detox deaths. But I told him it had more to do with taxes giving local GOV good money. Hope the old fucker makes it, he's a drunk but I interrupt his cig breaks every time I show up so I feel like a jackass.

God I miss getting shit faced wasted. I'm a recovering alchy and I've been sober since the middle of November. I had a few slips ups over the months though. But man do I miss just getting wasted and not caring for days to weeks on end. I did this for 11-12 years straight almost daily before I finally managed to stop with the help of my GF.

Why the hell do I miss it then? I miss the feeling. Shit even after going through some of the most horrific withdrawals I still crave and want it.

this is the second time in my life when i've had to stay locked up for months at a time without leaving. booze greatly improves the psychological aspect of quarantine, and knowing that was a huge risk for me. my therapist said i was just looking for excuses. he's probably right, but if this situation gets worse (as in near or complete societal collapse), then i will probably die shortly anyways. there are going to be bands of rapists and murderers, and while i have a gun, i likely can not survive a coordinated attack. even worse, i live in the deep south, and many of these doomsday larpers have had some military training or -- at the very least -- *think* they are real. and an enemy who thinks he is invincible can stand a much better chance in a fight.
