Let's talk about SPAM. Is it actually that bad? Or is it good in a pinch and a great way to add something to a dish?

>> No.13846485

>>13846481
It's not bad, I like it fried up with rice/eggs

>> No.13846486

I only eat it with rice and eggs or in musubi.

I prefer the low sodium version. by itself it's a hypertension in a can, but it's a good supplement for other dishes

As a Hawaiian I can assume you're a culinary SPAM expert. What are the best varieties?

>> No.13846534

I only eat the regular. I've tried the lite and it's the dumbest shit in the world; if you're buying spam just fucking buy full flavor spam and stop pretending like you're making a healthy choice.

>> No.13846537

my friend keeps complaining that he cant find it in any of this stuff in store. Im surprised people actually like it enough to cause a shortage

Spam is premium shit, 100% pork.
Every alternative is a mixed slurry of pork, chicken and beef offal.

Exactly. SPAM is made with two cuts of pork: Pork shoulder and ham. The unealthiness of it comes from the fat content of pork (even then i think theyve been slowly removing fat from spam over the years) and the fact you are curing ham which is like salting salt.

Get spam lite, slice into bits, fry till crisp with 1/4 tsp oil in the pan, then throw with rice or noodle soup, add a bit of chili crisp and 1tsp. soy sauce

>> No.13847735

>>13846481
Before shills get here - SPAM is actually pork shoulder - yes the same stuff you get at BBQ restaurants - cooked in the can and liberally salted.

Same but I love hot & spicy spam the most. I was glad it was the least bought kind in the store due to the virus

t. also hawaii fag

Used to use it to trap crabs. Its pretty alright fried up as a bacon replacement

>> No.13848180

It can be great. Personally I prefer it over bacon for breakfast applications but that's if you fry it until the outside is crispy. It's utterly revolting until you cook it and I can totally get why somebody who got fed a raw or undercooked version of spam could hate it for a lifetime.

At this point I'm hoping grocery stores actually go empty because I have so much tasty shelf-stable shit in my house, including 8 flavors of SPAM I want to try.

spam is based
my mother insisted it was terrible so i never tried it until i was like 20. it's flavorful, calorie-dense, and convenient, you can eat it straight from the can (although it's better fried). goes well with rice, noodles, etc.

>> No.13848455

It's ok. Kinda just tastes like a saltier hotdog with pretty much the same texture. Still a good thing to stockpile for emergencies.

basically things.
you keep a can or two at home in case your meat's bad or you've run out of meat.
you keep a few dozen cans in your long-term stores in case of fire/flood/earthquake/tornado/virus or whatever bullshit affects your area.
i keep a can in my car in case I break down miles from anywhere just so I can have some fried meat camping on the side of the highway.
it's nice to take a can or two out camping as well just so you can have fresh meat in the last few days of your trip, should you be away from a cooler or thru-hiking.

pic related: you can buy individually packaged slices of spam, shit's good in home-made MREs.

I lived in Japan for 10 years and I still dont get why Japs/Koreans are obsessed with gift-wrapping cooking oil and selling it for $200.

It has been fully stocked at the supermarket every day for the past month. Says a lot about what people think about it. A large portion of my survival rations is Spam, and I feel like an idiot now. I could waltz into the supermarket today and buy as much Spam as I've had stored for the past three years in one go and nobody would blink an eye. Meanwhile there are temporary restrictions on bread and milk.

yeah but no joke, go to any Japanese supermarket around xmas time and you'll see fancy gift boxes everywhere containing either 3~5 bottles of cheap canola oil, or 6~8 cheap cans of Asahi beer all wrapped nicely that costs in the order of $50~100 worth.
shits fucking retarded
