Were you a picky eater as a kid /ck/? Did you grow out of it, or did you autistic eating habits stick with you into adulthood?

What causes these dietary habits to develop in your experience?

Kids don't greens and vegetables in general as kids because their tastebuds tell them they are bitter so they'll spit them out. It's an evolutionary defense to eating poisonous plants.

Some adults were pandered to as children and never forced to eat these things, so their taste buds never matured and they never learned the positive association between what is safe to eat and what isn't, so they just don't eat veg.

There's very few foods I dislike as an adult, and even those things I can eat if I feel like I need to. I credit the fact that my parents didn't cater to me growing up. If I didn't like what they cooked, too bad.

I don't like cooked carrots, didn't like it when I was a kid either. I still don't care for peas, but I'll eat them, but I love sweet potatoes now.

>carrots
Mom always cooked them in brown sugar, but my dad and sisters loved them

We were poor, so they were always out of a can, but fresh they're tolerable.

I wasn't necessarily picky, as I would eat a lot of stuff and genuinely enjoyed things like seafood or whatever, but there were a few things I didn't like for a while, like spinach.

My parents didn't force me to eat anything at all as a kid. When I was really really little, all I'd eat were peas and carrots, though.

The only thing I don't like as an adult are sweets. They give me this incredible ashen aftertaste, like I'm eating dirt. I liked them as a kid, so I don't know what happened.

I was very open to foods as a child but became picky as I grew up. Why waste my life eating garbage I don't like? Why spend more than a few seconds thinking about what to eat when I know what I like the most and can just cook it? So now I just bake hardtack and dip it into cans of tomato soup. Sometimes I make grilled cheese sandwiches. Don't need anything else.

The trick is to wait until they're already really hungry and then just convince them to eat a couple of bites of [insert food here] until they acquire the taste, don't try to force them to eat a whole plate of liver or something, it'll just make them hate the taste even more. Well, there's things I wouldn't eat when I was younger.

Radishes
Plums
Meat with any sort of sweet sauce, I'd always say sweet doesn't go with meat
Food that touched eachother, if there was ketchup drizzled on the fries in advance, I wouldn't eat it
sweet pickles
poutine(pretty much for the food touching reason but it also wasn't good)
mayonnaise
mustard
tomatoes
peppers
Ah, I dunno, there was probably more. Like Jam. I've never had a peanut butter jelly sandwich. But I've grown up now and I don't have people hectoring me about how I eat so I don't really notice it anymore. There's no more screaming matches about how I have to eat my fries. Even when I do get the odd criticism, I can shut it down pretty quickly.

black licorice
that green stuff that comes with sushi

pure chocolate(that worsened over time, now I barely consume any chocolate)
jelly doughnuts
potato salad(one time my dad and I went to a wedding and were the only two people who didn't get sick. Neither of us would touch potato salad)
macaroni
bony fish(too scared of bones in my throat)
tomatoes
red apples(green's better)

I was and still am a picky eater, but thats because I have a recessive trait that allows me to taste a naturally occurring chemical in most green veggies which produces an overwhelming bitter hit.

So if I were say, bite into a piece of green lettuce with nothing on it, I would get ultra dark roast cold coffee instead.

Green veggies for me have to be sufficiently cooked before I can eat them with any ability, so I tend to have lots of soups and stews in order to supplement.

Fuck greenbeans tho, those can eat a dick regardless. Hate em.
