The best ‘barbecue’ is still the South African braai. We use actual proper meat, not bullshit ‘burgers’ and ‘hotdogs’, and NO WIMMIN ALLOWED. Seriously, only the men can make the braai. The women must stay in the kitchen and make the salads. The men look after the fire and the meat and they listen to the rugby while sipping beer and using the beer to control the flames. There is no greater barbecue event on earth, and there is no more manly a way to cook the proper fucking meat.

sure, european traditional breads are better beads to be enjoyed on their own, but I don't think a crusty or more complex bread would work better with barbeque. It's probably just because that's what we usually use, but when I eat barbecue I want shitty mass produced white square bread that turns into playdough when you squeeze it, raw onions and hamburger chip pickles. Crostini with proper bread would work in theory, but would violate the spirit of the dish

It's slow cooked on direct heat. If the heat source is coming from underneath or on top it's direct.
Indirect is convection oven, offset coals, or smoking etc.
