I've never had hard seltzer but as far as I understand it's essentially fermented sugar water, so undistilled. If so it should taste differently than distilled liquor mixed with seltzer and have at least some yeast notes.

I have been at the 8-dollar-handle-of-vodka phase of life, I was younger then and would hope not to have to go back. I drank it with mountain dew and lemon juice and I rented a cheap roachy apartment in the west hispanic part of town (before it was 'cool') while I grew mushrooms and... Played video games/watched tv shows with my girlfriend? sold blood plasma in the sketchass part of town for beer and pizza money until the phlebotomists had to turn me away on account of my blood pressure being so whacked.

I look back on my younger self with a sense of distance, as I know plenty now that he doesn't. All the same I wonder if I've come really all that far. How days go by.

just get a pitcher filter with activated carbon for cheap, run under water til charcoal stops coming out. Let dry and now use to filter your vodka, do it 2 to 3 times. Now you too have access to high quality vodka.
Boil it and have a metal funnel above the boiling pot, condense that shit, now you have something that will be closer to Everclear. Repeat or not if illegal in your area.

Now for that cheapo price you have both high quality vodka that doesn't fuck up your liver/kidneys as bad and at higher concentrations will kill you, disinfect your corpse and cause it to self ignite.
