Question: Has anyone successfully microwaved ramen like this where is specifically says to boil them, and had them turn out with a similar texture to boiling?

I really like these Samyang spicy noods, but don't have access to a kettle or stove when at work to cook them, and don't always feel like making them ahead of time.

you can probably put the noodles and water in a container and microwave for like 3-5 mins. Microwave ramen doesn't use any weird witchcraft, they just alter then instructions for Americans. So I don't see any reason why you can't.
Also how the hell do you not have access to an electric kettle...like just buy a small one on amazon and keep it at your desk or something.

My desk is a Kenworth T800 anon. I have a microwave in the truck, but don't really want to try and run an electric kettle in a small space that I have to share with my junk, and a coworker with his.

It's a burner, actually. Fluid travels through a bunch of coiled pipe on the inside and is heated by a diesel or kerosene flame as it passes through. It doesn't generate any pressure like a boiler.

"don't really want to try and run an electric kettle in a small space"

They make some really small collapse able kettles. Smaller than a travel mug. I guess you could also just boil water in a separate microwaveable container and/or use the samsung bowl versions of their noodles.

I've only seen the five packs of brick ramen in my area, otherwise I would have definitely gone for those for the convenience factor.

microwaving them literally is boiling them

>> No.13815618

yes.

1. microwave the water first so it is hot
2. submerge the ramen into the hot water
3. microwave the ramen for roughly the amount of time indicated (err on the side of less)
4. drain water and mix in ingredients as directed

Check for a Korean market. They have amazing variety with ramen and tons of the bowl kinds that you'll never see anywhere else. The quality is far superior as well

99% of the time if the ramen is coming out shit from the microwave you just have a shit microwave and need to replace it. Microwaves shit out after a few years and get dead zones where stuff isn't heating properly. Turn tables help negate this a far bit but the point still stands.

Also check what wattage your microwave is, most ramen packets want something fairly high. If you're microwaving something calling for a 1200 watt microwave but have a small ass 600w(most common) kind, your times will be fucked and shit will come out incomplete

That definitely would be the case with this unit, it's pretty small and cheap. All I usually use it for is to heat up leftovers.

Anyone else think these are insanely spicy. I love spicy food, wings, curries, hot sauce, mustard etc but man this brand really fucked me up, sweats, watery eyes, runny nose. Wasn't really enjoyable just for some noodles.

Asian friend at work gave me a packet to try and freaked out when I put the whole chilli packet in because I'm white.
Was spicier than other brands but only sweated a little, no mouthburn. Honestly I think my tastebuds are dead though.

>> No.13816241

>>13816136
That's why I like them. Everybody I know that eats it just uses half or a quarter of the packet. I have a hard time finding stuff that seems spicy to me because of the desensitization to capsaicin from frequent consumption, so these are great. For most people it's probably too spicy to be edible though. I also like the noodle texture better than other brands.

Unrelated but I once cooked the noodles and then fried them in a little bacon fat and the sauce packet and then put them in a tortilla with cheese, lettuce, kewpie mayo, and some other sweet Asian sauce that I can't remember. Was actually pretty good. I was drunk and thinking about a yakisoba sandwich which led me to wonder how noodles sandwiched between more carbs could even be good. Turns out it can be.

when following the steps and you pull it out of the microwave, you should be able to poke at that shit with a fork to make sure they're not underdone. Adding an extra 40s or whatever will do ya.

I think the main thing is to have the water be at or near 100 already when first adding the ramen. Normally I use an electric kettle to start it off since that's way faster but it doesn't matter how it gets there.

They use to be less than $1 in washington (the state, fuck you DC) but grocery stores have been raising the prices of popular brands over the past few years. I think they're like $3 a pack or more depending on where you get them now.

I've done that before as well. Sometimes I just end up changing my diet for no particular reason and go no-spice for a while. Good to reset occasionally so that I'm not drowning my food in hotsauce or cooking stuff that my wife can't eat without crying.

I have a glass bowl that's just big enough for a block of basic bitch Maruchan/Nissin ramen to fit in it. I add just enough water to cover the noodles then microwave with 1100 watt microwave for four minutes and they come out perfect.
I haven't tried the thick Samyang noodles in the microwave but they'll surely take considerably longer than 4 minutes at 1100 watts.

granted you have to wait longer to cook but most can be done in 3-6 mins with very hot water

they also make a microwave dish specifically for making pack noodles microwavable but you would be cooking them straight in there

OP here. I tried microwaving em at home for about six minutes at low power (Some anon mentioned that worked like a charm in another thread), and ended up having to nuke them for another three minutes on full power after that to get the water hot enough for the noodles to start to soften. My retarded journey continues.

try microwaving the water to boiling, then pouring that over the ramen in a bowl. if its not cooked enough from that, then throw the whole bowl in the microwave and continue

probably not so comparable to ramen, but it works well with instant oats, whereas microwaving the oats in teh water makes the oats stick to the side and makes it difficult to impossible to wash without soaking, while also wasting a small amount of oats
