Walmart sells frozen, "wild-caught" pink salmon fillets, allegedly caught in russia and processed in china. this isn't actual wild caught salmon is it? Is it safe to eat this shit? how do I get my hands on actual wild-caught salmon (pink or not) in the usa without paying $20 a lb?

>> No.13717430

A fish being wild caught or not doesn’t say anything about it’s safety. It depends on what area it’s caught from. For example it’s not recommended to eat wild caught Salmon from my countries two largest lakes more than 2-3 times a year at most because of toxins.

I've bought these individually sealed fillets before (not this exact brand) and they taste pretty gross

If it doesn’t cost like $25/lb it’s probably a scam. Farm raised or wild caught don’t mean shit. If a hatchery dumps all their GMO eggs into a local river every year, are those salmon wild caught?

Throwing it on the ground and giving it an elbow drop into the dirt doesn't make it grass-fed.

Supply and demand dude. That's what it costs.

Last time I flew to Alaska, I assure you that people who like salmon actually find it worth it to buy airfare, buy a fishing license, a play to stay, all their damn expenses, just to bring back disposable packed to the brim ice chests checked at the door of the jetway full of smoked meat they wildly caught. Oh, is it worth all that expense? Yes. The trip pays for itself.

Basa, shrimp, all this shit from China is processed with water from the Mekong delta. Ask yourself why it is cheaper to freeze and pay to import this stuff? Because someone is cutting corners either for the safety, the quality or the environments protection. Something shady you're supporting. II stood on the ground in Nova Scotia at a lobster packing plant and watched a S. Korean paying cash for every single day's entire catch, day after day. Canada is exporting good stuff to people who know quality. Couldn't Korea get it better closer to home? no.

It might actually be wild caught but that’s shit tier salmon. Pink salmon is crappy meat sold to people who don’t know any better. What you want is sockeye (red) or king salmon
