The Whataburger W/cheese is in my mind what a classic burger should taste like. I feel in a blind taste test it would hold it's own vs any burger chain out there. IMO where Whataburger pulls ahead of the competition is with it's non traditional burgers like the pattymelt, sweet and spicy, or bbq chicken strip sandwich. Plus their fries are killer. Lol no as someone who worked at one thr fries are pretty shit tier unless you ask for them extra crispy.

Where whataburger excels and is different is the customer service as almost any burger is extremely customizable and if you eat there people will bring you your food and ketchups and whatever else you may need.

I still think A&W is a tier above whataburger but DQ is like in between both A&W and Whataburger and probably the closest to it.

The point for Whataburger and In-N-Out is that they're good for fast food. They're not restaurants or local joints though. Among fast food places they're top quality though. If you want a burger right now, you don't feel like spending $20 and tipping another $5 on top of it, then this is a very good burger you can get quickly late at night or on the go.

It also helps that Whataburger is open 24/7

One time I went to go help someone move but we didn't want to rent a hotel in a shit area, tried sleeping in the car, didn't work, after giving up on going to sleep we decided to spend some time in Whataburger until morning. Its a place that's always good, always open, and it fulfills a niche.

It's because fast food is fast food. For the record I'm a califag that loves In-n-out and eats there a few times a month. But there's only so much that you can do with cheap-ass food to make it taste good. And as far as quality goes, you're probably going to get the best with regional chains. But even then it won't match a more expensive restaurant burger. It just isn't possible.

Restaurant burgers suck, they try to hard to be fancy rather than good. If its a full on restaurant at least. Chilis, Red Robbins, any fancy place, garbage. They're either mass produced crap or they try to be too fancy rather than good.

What you want is kind of a middle ground, like a hole in the wall local place that does good burgers. But I wouldn't call places like that full on restaurants where you need to throw down a tip and pay $20.

The burger is kind of a low class food in a sense, just like a sandwich. So any place that looks too pricey, really won't be able to bring out its quality. Since its not that kind of food. Its kinda like how almost any high class sandwich place kinda sucks. They put all the effort into the presentation and not the food.

Agreed. Find a little non-descript grill and you *might* get the best burger, hotdog, grilled cheese or whatever that you ever had. Or maybe not. But this anon is correct. A nice restaurant will sell you a $12 dollar cheeseburger but it's probably not going to be that good.

Five Guys = I pay $25 just walking in the door

Whataburger = I pay about $6, and the taste is comparable

Is the very slight difference in taste really worth about $20? I can tell you that Whataburger grills their meat for real, I've worked there. So its not like I'm getting a fake product like a McDonalds Burger where they don't actually cook it. I can confirm you're getting a real burger cooked on the Grill at Whataburger and Five Guys, difference is mostly how thick the patty is and how loaded the fries are. But the price is very very different in exchange. Meanwhile at Whataburger I can just get a double patty burger and that makes up for the difference in patty size. Since I worked there I know the vegetables are chopped daily at Whataburger, so that part of the product is also not inferior

If almost every aspect is equal, and the only difference is small things like the spices, fries, or the patty thickness, but the price is very different, then I'd sooner go to Whataburger.

In n out is the tried and true burger when you get it animal style. But the cook wanted to keep it semi healthy so you didn't die. Whataburger is a southern black grandma drowning the food in oil and soul sauce because fuck your arteries this isn't food it's an experience. 10/10 love whataburger and in n out

What the ever loving fuck are you talking about? That’s not Whataburger at all. Really bad analogy.

Being from Corpus Christi and actually working at Whatabreezy I love it to death and it is a staple in Texas tradition of getting drunk and or hanging out with friends late at night. I could eat Whataburger multiple times a week and not grow tired of it. However what carries the chain heavily is the All Time Favorites, the variety of the menu, breakfast, ketchup, and most importantly the 24/7 service. When you strip WB down to its core their burgers are above average, but not better than Five Guys or In-N-Out. You can tase the difference in the meat, FG and INO both use fresh meat that makes a spectacular juicy burger. WB on the other hand uses frozen patties and fries which take away from that fresh flavor. I love WB but their burgers are not as good as the other two, you need to get a Patty Melt or Chicken Strip Sandwich to get the best of the establishment. A #1 however is boring and just barley above average. But again that’s the appeal of WB the specialty sandwiches, the all day every day service, the extremely based ketchup and most importantly the Texas cult following. That being said I will most likely choose Whataburger over In-N-Out and Five Guys for most situations, but if I’m craving a juicy, fresh burger and it’s not 1am-11am I will go to FG and INO.
