Is this worth getting? Are there any similar priced alternatives?

youd have to drink like 200-400 espressi before you even break even the dollars for the machine, now factor in the upkeep cost and the cleaning and all the other shit, not to mention the beans and you could probably drink 700+ espressi at a coffee shop until this thing has benefited you.
So thats, 2-3 years of espresso until you break even.

Make two shots a day and it’s paid for in a year. A good Entry level espresso machine like a Silvia will last 10-15+ years and are easily user repairable (unlike plastic chinkshit like brevilles)

it's a bit pricier but i opted for the lelit PL41TEM. but then i also got the kinu phoenix grinder so that'll add to the price too. but the PID is pretty nice, already pulling decent shots.

>> No.13644457

>>13644414
Your math is off too. A double shot or Americano costs $3 at most shops and latte $5. Your only expense at home is $0.50-$0.75 beans per double shot and $0.10 of milk for a latte. Maintenance and cleanup is trivial and most home coffee enthusiasts enjoy it as part of the routine. You are saving $4 per drink if you make lattes. Two a day and you save $3k. That’s enough to buy a Rocket HX machine and a high end grinder like a Niche Zero.

>> No.13644460

>>13642850
Get the infuser and the smart grinder pro separate. The grinders tend to break. and it will cost you about the same to get them separate.

If youre into it sure, but if we argue coffee shop customers, then I doubt you'd hit your local shop twice a day every day.
This breville aluminium plastic trash thing will probably break on you before you even got your money out of it and a mechanical espresso maker would probably last you a life time. But the thing is, if you buy this trashy Breville or other semi auto/full auto things for "cheap"(still expensive) then they will make a shitty espresso. Coffee shops have 2000+ dollar machines and can pull you an espresso with pinpoint accuracy to your taste (if the barista isnt some retard low wage slave)

in Europe(Germany/Italy/France) expensive espressi go for 2 Euro roundabout, and you get them for 1 Euro at most decent places.

>> No.13644494

>>13644473
Not advocating this Breville garbage. You can get a perfectly doable setup within $1-1.5k as long as your prioritize the grinder. That’s two espresso a day and not even counting milk drinks. And you would be surprised at how often coffee enthusiasts will frequent their favourite haunt, especially if it’s part of their morning routine.

>> No.13644511

>>13644494
thing is, you will pay a lot for a good grinder and then you will have to pay a lot for a decent semi auto or physical machine, and then you dont want trash roasts in your espresso so you go for good beans too. The thing is, that when you factor everything in, you will pay upwards of 800 bucks just for the mere setup. Its a rabbit hole, because unless you spend, as you said 1-1.5k on the whole thing, you will more than likely not make a great espresso (that is also quickly available) the cleaning and the maintenance that you dont have to do at a coffee shop, is already worth it in my book.

If youre an enthusiast the whole discussion is pointless because then its a passion, and then you dont care about the price.

>> No.13644536

>>13644511
If were talking entry level then a $500 Sette 270 is great and perfectly capable pairing of even a 2k HX machine. The bottle neck to good espresso is always the grinder followed by the beans. You can use a Silvia with a PID for $500 and with a Sette 270 or better (like a $900 Niche Zero) and make excellent espresso. Again this all within the realm of 2 espresso a day to pay it off in one year.

This is how I am as well. I truly love coffee, and I have all sorts of gadgets with which to make it, but I would say 60% of the time at least when I wake up and want some coffee that I don't want to go through the minor hassle of using my moka pot or French press and instead would rather use my drip machine for 3 quick, perfect cups. There are days when I want moka or pressed coffee and have no issue switching the grind and boiling water and shit, but in the end it doesn't feel worth it for when I just want a cup to wake up.

I absolutely despise this kind of mindset, as if centering your life around your work and actually managing your life around it, made your life better. I hate the mornings, I dont need coffe, I like it on the weekends when I have time and get a cozy feeling from using my shitty hand grinder from the 30s and put the grinds in my french press. I mean do what you gotta do but I will never sacrifice my life any more than I absolutely have to, when it comes to work. Fuck wage work, and yes, that goes toward every single fucking job. The only way to live well is to have your money work for you, and then youre the slavemaster and you hate yourself either way. Fuck this system. But yeah, enjoy your coffee bro.

>Gaggia Classic Pro
I disagree.

The Breville uses a stainless steel spiral heating chamber that is pid controlled. No aluminum contacts the heated water and nothing can oxidize in the chain. The pid is also far more accurate. Beyond this the grinder produces the most consistent particle size out of any grinder under 2,000 dollars. To each their own but the infuser/ smart grinder combo is by fart he best you can get under the thousand dollar mark.
