However, when you are feeling stressed, depressed, generally anxious or tired, you are less likely to want to put effort into your cooking and food in general. Overall, poorer areas have higher rates of comorbidites of these things and, as such, they end up just getting something quick, easy and whatever. Kids are brought up in this environment and 1. never learn how to cook from their families and/or 2. end up mentally strained much like their parents and just get whatever is easy as well.

On top of this, in the US, for some reason, a lot of poor non-white people tend to have a massive chip on their shoulder and blame their situation with food, money or whatever on what white people's great great grandparents did to their great great grandparents and that's why they flunked out of highschool and never eat kale or broccoli.

It's a mix. Also, food deserts are real, but they are created through lack of demand - not some conspiracy.

"Poverty" is an odd thing in countries with social safety nets and welfare. Diseases such as gout and obesity, once associated with wealth and affluence, have now become the markers of overconsuming undereducated low-class citizens. While I believe everyone has a right to food and good health, the difference between poverty where you starve and poverty where you gorge on unhealthy food is obvious. Welfare doesn't typically require you to prove you're going to spend that benefits cheque properly.
