why does japan have so many kit kat flavours and we're stuck with the generic ones?
matcha kit kats are delicious

Japan is incredibly boring and monotonous. They compensate via false variety. Spend 3 months on a Japanese candy subscription box if you really want to explore your weeb side, and I can almost guarantee you'll quickly realize how boring and bland it all is, despite the pretty colors.

Because a westener won't pay up for this shit. Also matcha kitkat tastes awful.

I really wish green tea kit kats were available at the price of normal ones. They're tasty, but they're a ripoff at the import price.

>Kit Kat is easily the most popular chocolate brand in Japan, for the simple reason that the name sounds like 'kitto katsu', which is a common Japanese expression of good luck. As such, Kit Kat is commonly given as a gift to school children taking their exams, or anyone really who needs a little boost of luck.

Huge difference between the green tea ones and the matcha ones, matcha ones are darker and way better (less sweet)

Americans generally only buy the same candy bar, can't really justify variety like that if it's not going to sell

chances are if you're not japan, you might not even be eating the real matcha kitkats from japan
kitkats are created and distributed differently between the countries, so the demand for matcha probably caused the American side to try producing their own verision to keep import costs down

furthermore, there are multiple different levels of matcha kitkat
there's definitely a more bitter, flavorful verision that isn't nearly as sweet

False variety in a philosophical sense. Choice between a massive amount of products, but very little personal agency. I don't see his point- it's almost the same in the US.

Well, for instance if in Japan KitKat swamped the chocolate candy market so that they represented 90% of all chocolate candy, then you could legitimately say it's a false variety. Of course there are many other brands as well as vast numbers of artisanal pâtissiers and chocolatiers in Japan just like in Europe, so this isn't actually true.

I had great memories of matcha kitkat from my trip to japan so when I saw one in a supermarket recently I bought it. It was oversugary and nothing like my memories. I'm guessing it's not the matcha taste specifically, it's just that these candy bars are too sugary for adult consumption.

KitKats are a cultural thing. They sound similar to the phrase for "good luck" so sometimes you get one when you're about to take on a test or accomplishment or something.

>>13544291
I slightly agree with you. Nearly all the chocolates taste the same, though good. Milk and matcha flavors can only go so far. Most of the candies really rely on a gimmick, but many are similar because I assume production methods are just really copy paste for most of the candy manufacturers. Dagashi was very popular after the wars so I assume most flavors just evolved from that time.
