where the fuck do I learn how to cook?
is there a recipe book all beginners buy?
all I can make is fried rice (literally just mixing diced up shit together in a hot pan)

Frogshits go home. We don't want you here.
But seriously, buy a Betty Crocker cookbook. It's an instruction book disguised as a recipe book. From cover to cover, it teaches you everything from how to use a knife to what spices and herbs to use. It's got charts, illustrations, and all that good stuff, plus easy recipes using common ingredients.

Youtube and the library is your friend dude. Recipe books are great but there's so much variety its easy to get over welmed. I get it, weve all been there. Start by watching eceleb cunts to get a good idea of some basics, find yourself am easy read reference book, if youre really excited about cooking. Basically just do your homework. Find a single ingredient that you like and just look at all the different dishes you can make with it, pick one recipe and go for it. Also helps if you can teach yourself how to pick out different flavors when eating, but thatll come in time. I think the thing everyone forgets to mention is to pay attention when youre eating, dont gobble it down. What do you like? What dont you like? Can you pick what exactly makes those things? Sorry, had a few tonight, end rambling.

I learned by cooking things and messing them up a lot. Never really followed recipes except for on cooking time and temp. Get a basic idea of ingredients that go in a dish

Pro tip use oil or butter in just abt everything when cooking on a pan

some of the first recipes i ever tried were from /b/ of all places, especially in the form of infographics but that was like 13 years ago. that being said, the /ck/ booru is a decent place to start sometimes, especially because lots of the tags are ingredient related (in that you can just include things you have/want to cook with and see what comes up)
ill dump some retardproof recipe infographics, starting with one that is really difficult to screw up unless you are actively trying to sabotage yourself. ive made this before and its alright. does exactly what it says and it tastes exactly how you think it tastes. pork is very cheap here so i used to make this a lot

also i hate to say this because im tired of hearing it, but marco pierre white is absolutey right lots of times when he says "there's no real recipe", in that you can add or remove things as you like depending on your tastes, especially if you know what sort of flavor they are trying to bring to whatever it is that youre making. even if not, youre usually pretty safe to omit non-staple ingredients, even if the recipe calls for them (ie. if you make cream of mushroom soup, dont omit the mushrooms. stuff like that; use common sense) i usually always try to incorporate leeks whenever i can because i fucking love leeks. heres a fantastic soup that i still make sometimes to this day. i really like soup though so i might be a bit biased

made this without actually realizing it was vegan the first time, it was still delicious as hell, and cheap to make. i try to avoid vegan things because i feel almost guilty or like i wasted my time if i have a meal that doesnt contain meat or at least something like eggs or cheese, but this one caught me off guard. since then, ive added chicken or lamb to it and its been even better. but its still fine without any meat in it.

this one from /b/ and if i can make this, anybody can make this.
baking absolutely anything at all stresses me the fuck out and i have no idea why. i legitimately start panicking and get intense anxiety from baking, no matter what it is. those fucking pre-cut sugar cookies even too, or a simple loaf of bread, or chocolate chip cookies, or whatever. i dont know what it is, its just a weird tick i have. even i made this and it turned out great

this one good overall too. white wine is definitely optional, if you dont want to use white wine just substitute it with more chicken broth/stock
plus who are you kidding, thats wine you could be drinking to get drunk anyways

spaghetti carbonara is also very delicious and easy to make once you identify the sweetspots and timings of your stovetop, because its five fucking ingredients (many if not all of which you are guaranteed to have already) lol
>bacon/pancetta/guanciale (guanciale for most authentic version, seems to be hard to find though, at least where i am. i dont buy pancetta because its almost three times as expensive as bacon for me and i dont care enough about the difference in taste)
>a spaghetti like pasta
>egg
>parmesan cheese (or pecorino romano)
>black pepper
thats it
on my stovetop it works out that if i start cooking the bacon at the same time that i cook my pasta in, it comes out at the perfect time for me to strain then add to the pan with bacon, turn off the heat, mix a bit, then add egg/egg yolk, top with parmesan and a seemingly uncomfortable amount of black pepper
mix it all up again and there you go. fucking great
i dont usually add salt to it because i find the bacon adds enough salt overall
you dont need any cream at all unless you run out of eggs
