No, Detroit-style pizza differs because you brush the pan with butter and put cheese to the edge of the pan as well. It results in a crust that gets fried and buttery/crispy on the underside and a nice crispy ring of caramelized cheese around the edge. The history of them dates back to people in Detroit making pizza in rectangular parts pans from auto factories rather than standard pizza pans. Hence, Detroit-style.
